NEET crisis calls for a systemic solution, as the problem is in the current exam system. In today’s Indian Express, we propose a 40:40:20 solution which can strengthen the schools, deescalate stakes n a single exam, and bring reliability and credibility. It is possible to reform the school based assessments to make them robust. Some of them can be: manditory use of a standardised question bank built by NCERT, using AI-proctored online testing and testing on concepts etc.

While senior officials promise smooth execution, the ground reality paints a different picture. 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳: 1️⃣ 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞: Just before the exam started, students in Delhi were informed that their exam on May 15th was postponed to May 29th due to "unavoidable circumstances." This last-minute change affected over 146,000 students. 🗓️❌ 2️⃣ 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞: On day one, a paper leak was reported at a center in Kanpur. Amid student protests, the exam for 220 students was postponed to May 29th. 🔒📄 3️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞: Long queues for frisking outside 🚶♂️🚶♀️ and biometric verification inside 🛂 left many students with only 15 minutes to write a 45-minute exam. Despite all the checks, there were no clocks in the exam hall ⏳, and students had to leave their watches outside. ⌚🚫 4️⃣ 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞: Hindi medium students were given the paper in English, causing further confusion and stress. 🇮🇳❌📝 These failures have severely impacted many students' dreams of securing spots in top colleges and courses. NEET SCAM: 67 student getting AIR 1, scoring perfect 720 🙄 Many of you have already read about the NEET exam results and how the NTA has wronged lakhs of students. Here are some points where the NTA's actions are questionable: 1. In previous years, a maximum of 2 to 3 students scored a perfect 720, but this year, 67 students scored a perfect 720. 2. Students received scores like 718 or 719, which is not possible according to the NEET marking scheme. 3. Multiple NEET 2024 toppers came from a particular exam center. 4. Alleged question paper leak: Bihar police discovered that parents paid around Rs 50 lakh for the leaked question paper. Up to 13 people, including parents and aspirants, were arrested by the EOU in Bihar. It’s difficult to determine if these issues are coincidental or if the NTA acted intentionally. Many students and edtech companies are filing petitions in the Supreme Court. Let’s hope the whole truth comes out and the culprits receive appropriate punishment.
