September 9-13 is Construction Suicide Prevention Week, and beginning in 2024, the construction industry will come together in a powerful moment of remembrance to honor those we’ve lost and to re-commit to preventing further loss of life. The rate of death by suicide for construction workers is 5.5 times the rate of all other construction fatalities on the jobsite. The rate of suicide in construction is more than four times higher than the general population. With more than 8 million (and rising) workers in the industry, it is critical that we place as much focus on mental health in our workforce as much as we do the physical. To show your commitment to getting every person home and back to the jobsite healthy every day, join Construction Suicide Prevention Week today for one minute of silence during our nationwide stand-down to honor all lives lost to suicide. #ConstructionSuicidePreventionWeek #CSPW2024

Supporting Mental Health in Construction - Did you know that the suicide rate among construction workers is four times higher than the national average? At Suffolk Construction, we recognize our industry's unique challenges, such as seasonal work, demanding schedules, and workplace injuries, which all contribute to these alarming statistics. Recently, during Construction Suicide Prevention Week, our teams across the country came together to raise awareness and offer support. Through safety standdowns, we discussed the mental health and substance abuse issues impacting our workforce, identified suicide risk factors and warning signs, and shared vital resources available for our Suffolk family and trade partners. Together, we can break the stigma and ensure that no one struggles in silence. The suicide death rate for construction workers was 2.4 times higher than all industries (46.1 vs. 19.5 per 100,000 full time employees) in 2022, and there were five times more suicides in construction than at-work fatalities that year, This week marks Construction Suicide Prevention Week, and we encourage all workers and employers to access the resources at the CSPW website. Mental health and suicide are difficult to talk about, but together we can help save lives. #construction #mentalhealth #consructionsuicidepreventionweek #nationalsuicidepreventionmonth

The construction industry faces the second-highest suicide rate of all other industries. Construction workers—men in particular—are committing suicide at a rate that's 75% higher than the general population, according to the CDC. It's a profession that is both physically and mentally demanding, and it's facing a crisis. At Tenna, we work to maintain the safety of crews on the road and in the field but are very aware of the gap that needs to be filled when it comes to protecting workers mentally. During Construction Suicide Prevention Week, we'd like to draw attention to this crisis and to the Construction Suicide Prevention organization, which offers resources to help employers support mental wellness among their workers. We encourage all of our partners to leverage these tools and do their part in awareness and prevention: https://hubs.la/Q02PJTwF0 The more open we are about discussing suicide, the easier it will be for those suffering to reach out. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. #constructionsuicidepreventionweek #suicideprevention #constructionsafety

It's disheartening to see that despite efforts by OSHA and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the construction industry continues to grapple with a devastatingly high suicide death toll. The inherent challenges in the field, such as long and demanding hours, the constant risk of serious injury, and the strain of job-related travel, create a breeding ground for mental health issues. The compounding pressures, including uncertain seasonal work and separation from core support systems, exacerbate the situation. It's crucial for the industry to address these issues head-on and prioritize the mental well-being of construction workers. Addressing anxiety, depression, and substance abuse through comprehensive support systems and mental health initiatives is essential. Collective efforts are needed to create a safer and more supportive environment within the construction industry, ensuring that individuals have the resources and assistance they need to cope with the challenges they face. This not only impacts the mental health of workers but also contributes to overall safety on construction sites. Let's work together to raise awareness, promote mental health initiatives, and foster a culture that values the well-being of every individual in the industry. It takes all of us to make a difference. Check in on your coworkers, friends, and family. You Are NOT Alone!! You Are NOT 2 Tuff 2 Talk!! Every year, during September — National Suicide Prevention Month — the construction industry dedicates a week to raising awareness about the unique challenges workers face in construction that lead to suicide and what we can do to prevent it. This dedicated week aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with suicide within the construction industry. Construction workers face unique stressors that can impact their mental health, including high-pressure environments, long hours, and job insecurity. It is crucial that we come together as a community to support one another and promote mental well-being. Together, we can save lives! For more information please visit the Construction Suicide Prevention Week website https://lnkd.in/eyinsTh2 During this week Sept 9-13, 2024, Massachusetts Port Authority Capital Programs is emphasizing this topic during morning meetings, job meetings, safety stand-downs, and site walks. Project Managers and Resident Engineers are using this opportunity to walk their jobs sites and have open dialogue with the construction workers about this topic. We are handing out pamphlets and hard hats stickers with facts regarding construction suicide prevention week and resources to help foster the open dialogue, as well as hard hat stickers. Let’s work together to make Construction Suicide Prevention Week a success and foster a healthier, more supportive work environment for all. #mentalhealth #suicidepreventionweek #constructionsafety #psycologicalsafety
