British Gas has joined a consortium aimed at revolutionising the retrofitting of social housing 🏡💚 Alongside NatWest, Places for People, Sero and Tallarna, we’re using data from 1,000 households to quantify the environmental, financial and health benefits for residents of reaching #NetZero. The pilot aims to reduce energy costs for social housing residents and reduce the cost barriers associated with retrofits. It's just another way we're energising a greener, fairer future. Somehow a good news. But the other side of the news is that it's spotting out how the #GreenDeal #transition is so impactful that (hopefully) large #utilities, #banks and #privateequity #funds choose to join forces all together to try to simplify / accelerate the progress of refurbishment of #oldbuildings. Unfortunately, it's somehow disappointing to read comments of people disappointed themselves from the fact that the news doesn't quote single technologies like #HeatPumps (or #BEVs). This people still think like an engineer just to the technology aspect of the problem (ehi ! pls note: I'm an Engineer and I'm criticizing Engineers's way of thinking). They didn't catch the true point, which is: 1) financial 2) societal 3) geopolitical 4) ethical 1) transition needs (a lot of) #money before technologies 2) transition needs social acceptance / ease of applicability on scale 3) transition needs to avoid shaking many geopolitical relationships (think to oil-depending economies, their relationships with other powerful countries not just Europe, aka China, and the power of these countries on other countries sovereign debts, aka USA. All this misconsidered by all these saying: ehi ! I'm installing photovoltaic on my house in Germany and I'm saving the world. 4) transition needs to balance a way-out in the critical hotspot countries in Middle-East and BRICS/South America where people live (or could aim to live) a on a (sub-)decent level of welfare which will be totally zeroed in case we don't help planning for them an alternative to current fossil fuels / energy exports as primary source of revenues. and this is why it can't be made (at full-scale on worldwide level) in just 25 years....
A consortium including NatWest and British Gas have joined forces to create a new financial model to revolutionise how social homes are retrofitted to slash energy bills, household emissions and hit climate targets. The banking and energy giants are working with Places for People Pineapple Sustainable Partnerships, Sero and Tallarna to find a new way to slash the upfront costs of making homes greener for landlords as the UK races to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. #netzero #retrofit https://lnkd.in/eHswaX4b

🏡 Breaking new ground in social housing sustainability. We’re proud to announce that Places for People is part of a groundbreaking consortium with NatWest, British Gas, Sero, and Tallarna, led by Pineapple Partnerships. Together, we are piloting an innovative financial model designed to revolutionise the retrofitting of social housing across the UK. This pioneering trial will initially focus on 1,000 homes owned by Places for People. Our goal is to quantify the environmental, financial, and health benefits for Customers. By exploring alternative financing solutions, such as repaying capital through selling solar power the homes generate, retrofit credits, and government grants, this approach seeks to bring energy savings directly to Customers. This initiative aligns perfectly with our sustainability goals and is a testament to our commitment to driving positive change in the housing sector. Greg Reed, our Chief Executive Officer, explained the significance of this initiative: “By participating in this project, we’re driving progress towards our own sustainability goals while supporting the industry in developing innovative, scalable solutions to achieve net-zero emissions.” We are excited to collaborate with industry leaders and governmental bodies to make this vision a reality and #MakeADifference. NatWest launches ‘#HomeEnergyHub' to help homeowners in #Bristol make energy efficient changes and reduce bills! 🚀 With more than 1 in 10 (13%) Bristol residents surveyed unhappy with the #EnergyEfficiency of their home, the platform enables the UK's 14.6m homeowners to understand the steps needed to make sustainable changes through trusted partners, as well as offering financing options from the bank, potentially helping to reduce #EnergyBills. The NatWest Home Energy Hub aims to help homeowners identify and understand specific improvements that could be made to their property, and tackles some of the biggest barriers to taking the next step – finding someone trustworthy to do the work in their local area, and how to pay for it. 🏘️ It also includes an affordability calculator, letting #HomeOwners get an idea of how much they could borrow and outlines for consumers the costs associated with making specific sustainable upgrades. CEO at Tandem Bank Helping mainstream consumers transition their homes, transport and lifestyles to a lower carbon economy whilst saving a little along the way.
♻️ HEAT PUMP BRAIN DUMP ♻️ Six months ago, heat pump grants were raised from £5k to £7.5k, addressing cost concerns head-on. It worked. The increase resulted in a 52% increase in installations across the country compared to the same period last year. But according to Ofgem’s last count, more than £60 million in funds earmarked for the scheme has gone unclaimed. According to Tandem’s Green Gap, while 27% cite cost as the top barrier to heat pump installation, there’s more to the story: 🚨18% said they don’t know enough about heat pumps 🚨15% said they don’t know how to install a heat pump 🚨12% don’t know how to access finance So, while cost holds the top spot as the single most significant barrier, a general lack of awareness and confusion around heat pumps poses an issue to 45% of consumers. We’re on a mission to help that – providing the expertise, insight and support to help consumers start their pathway to a greener future. As we head to the polls tomorrow, the new government needs to ensure fighting #climatechange remains a top priority from Day One – particularly when it comes to domestic emissions. Tandem Bank’s latest monthly tracker is out today – and it’s not great news as consumers continue to deprioritise carbon reduction over immediate priorities, as cost of living pressures continue. Positive change won’t happen overnight, but we know consumers are looking for it – they just need support to take whatever steps they can. Tandem is here to help – our next Government needs to be too. Small things go a long way on the pathway to green and we can get to Net Zero, together, if we all do our bit. #WeAreTandem #GreenGap #GreenerBanking #SustainableLiving #ClimateChange #GeneralElection #PathwaytoGreen #NetZero

Two further loans drawn this week under the Banks' Housing Association Decarbonisation Initiative, assisting two existing clients. This initiative is offered to support the delivery of energy efficiency projects within the UK’s social housing stock. This ringfenced finance is available to support investment in a range of cleaner energy projects supporting Housing Associations. Projects may include energy efficient boilers, solar power, double glazing and improved insulation, helping to provide more sustainable practices and protect the environment. As a Carbon Neutral bank for three years, Unity believes that finance has an important role to play in achieving a greener future and positively contributing to the UK’s transition to a net zero carbon economy. #GreenEnergy #DecarbonisationFinance
