The closing of Britain's last coal-fired power station earlier this week marked a historic milestone in the global shift towards decarbonization. As more fossil fuel plants reach the end of their life, the focus now shifts to how we replace that capacity and ensure grid stability. Long Duration Energy Storage (#LDES) is a key piece of the puzzle. Beyond providing reliable, round-the-clock power, it can offer a path forward for workers in traditional fossil fuel industries, creating new jobs in energy storage, battery manufacturing, and advanced clean energy technologies. This moment shows that with the right vision, decarbonization can bring both environmental progress and economic opportunity. #LDES #Decarbonization #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy #FutureOfWork #GridStability

Will the UK achieve its goal of #NetZero by 2050? Billed as the biggest economic transformation since the industrial revolution, it’s a challenge that will change our energy system, and how we use energy, forever. How are we getting on? 🏭 Energy supply emissions have dropped 72% and industry-related emissions 61% since 1990. This feels like good news. 🚗 But the UK #EnergyTransition is still in its early stages. Nearly 80% of UK energy still comes from fossil fuels. And only 1% of UK transport is electric. 🌍 We have the opportunity to make the UK a leader in low carbon technology. How do we make that happen? To deep dive into our #EnergySystem today, and what needs to happen tomorrow, visit our web page that charts the UK #EnergyTransition journey so far, and where we are against targets. https://deloi.tt/3SrcPES #Decarbonisation

Currently, only 38% of the UK's rail network is electrified, meaning most routes rely on diesel trains. With momentum building towards hydrogen playing a more significant role in decarbonising the energy and transportation sectors, can hydrogen accelerate the decarbonisation of rail? Did you know, for the UK to successfully #decarbonise, we need to radically reshape the way in which our energy sector operates? This is because as we shift to more intermittent #renewablepower sources and decrease 24/7 fossil fuel generation, we’ll need to manage all aspects of electricity more efficiently. Here, Ben Whitelam shares how Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) could be the key enabler for the UK to meet our #netzero ambitions ➡ https://nbs.energy/4bouXGM
