After more than three decades in healthcare consulting, I thought I'd come in contact with most of the issues. Until I learned from my experienced #HMA colleagues who specialize in justice-involved issues. If we ever hope to decrease the crime rate and the number of incarcerated individuals -- half of whom face mental health or substance use challenges -- we need to figure out how they can keep up with their healthcare as they move back into the world. Stop the revolving door. An interesting listen.
New episode of HMA's Vital Viewpoints on Healthcare - How Can We Better Transition Healthcare Services for People Leaving Incarceration? featuring Managing Director Linda Follenweider. In this episode, Linda discusses the critical gaps in continuity of care for incarcerated individuals. Listen now: https://lnkd.in/gu2gi5Hc

This multifaceted issue often involves different professionals from law enforcement and health care systems, which may lead to siloed and suboptimal care. The virtual crisis care (VCC) program was developed to provide rural law enforcement with access to behavioral health professionals and facilitated collaborative care via telehealth technology.” #CrisisCare #Telemedicine #ContinuityOfCare #VirtualMobileCrisisResponse #OfficerWellness The Ohio Hospital Association Ohio Rural Health Association Supreme Court of Ohio Buckeye State Sheriffs Association NAMI OHIO City of Dayton National Sheriffs' Association National Association of Counties International Association of Chiefs of Police Bipartisan Policy Center National Conference of State Legislatures National League of Cities

Today we’re releasing an eye-opening research project by Amanda Warburton-Wynn which reveals an increasing number of older people being sexually abused by hospital staff in NHS trusts across England. The research found that 274 allegations of staff sexually assaulting older patients were recorded from 2021 to 2024. This paints a troubling picture, that the sexual abuse of older people by hospital staff is an increasing problem. It’s also deeply concerning that the research has found that these incidents are often not being reported to the police and victims are often not referred to support services either. Just wanted to share a Routine Spotlight: Safeguarding Adults in Domiciliary Care 🏡💙 Recently, we encountered a situation where one of our team members, let's call her Sarah, noticed subtle changes in a client's behavior during routine visits. 🚪👀 Instead of overlooking it, Sarah took immediate action. She initiated a conversation with the client, demonstrating empathy and active listening. Through this open dialogue, crucial information surfaced, hinting at potential risks to the client's well-being. Our safeguarding procedures swiftly kicked in! Collaborating with healthcare professionals, we developed a personalized care plan to address the identified concerns. The client is now receiving the support they need, and their safety is our top priority. This scenario emphasizes the importance of a vigilant and caring team in domiciliary care. Today is 211 Day across North America! Join us in celebrating this important initiative that connects individuals with the support they need. 211 Day is a public awareness initiative for the award-winning service that helps guide people through the complex network of human services by phone, online, and, in some areas, by text. 211 experts can help you connect to social, health, and government services information. - Encouraging Canadians to dial 2-1-1 for non-emergency services can help reduce congestion on 911 dispatch lines and helps ensure they are accessing the right type of assistance. Canadians should always call 9-1-1 for a life-threatening emergency when a property is in danger, or a crime is in progress that requires the police, fire, or paramedics. - #Etobicoke #caregivers #community #seniors #seniorhealth #211DayCanada #211Day #HumanServices

How the New Congressional Spending Package Helps People with Medicaid Access Behavioral Health Care Medicaid has a critical role in addressing the nation’s behavioral health crisis. In 2020, nearly 40% of nonelderly U.S. adults covered by the program had a #mentalhealth or substance use disorder. Last month, Congress approved a legislative package that includes #behavioralhealth reforms aimed at making services more accessible to Medicaid beneficiaries. Here, Dawn Joyce and Lena Marceno of Impact Health Policy Partners detail key provisions of the package that: 🏡 bolster the behavioral health workforce, and alleviate shortages, by allowing all states to establish community behavioral health clinic services 🏥 allow states to provide Medicaid-covered services to beneficiaries living in psychiatric hospitals or residential treatment facilities ⚖️ stabilize Medicaid coverage for people entering and leaving incarceration 💵 increase funding for community health centers. Collectively, these provisions will enable millions of Americans to get the help they need, the authors say.

Motivated and forward-thinking leader with experience driving success through strategic planning and implementation
‘In the recent “minibus” appropriations package for 2024 (H.R. 4366), Congress included several behavioral health reforms, largely for Medicaid beneficiaries and individuals who receive care in community-based settings, with hopes that these reforms can increase the availability of behavioral health services for Medicaid beneficiaries and improve health outcomes.’ #healthcare #mentalhealth #access #mentalhealthawareness #policy #behavioralhealth

The ability of States to use Medicaid to meet the health needs of young people in, and transitioning from, juvenile justice facilities is about to expand dramatically. By January 1, 2025, all States must provide a set of medical and case management services to youth who are transitioning from carceral placement back to the community, and may provide the full range of Medicaid services to youth who are detained awaiting disposition of their charges. This issue brief discusses the ways that States can use these new opportunities to address young people’s unmet health needs, support their successful transition back to the community, and reduce overall youth involvement in the justice system. https://lnkd.in/ewq3Z_b8
