Alabama A&M University’s Bulldog Transit System (BTS) has been awarded an impressive $8.1 million grant through the Competitive Low-No Emissions Program for FY 2023. This grant marks a significant step towards AAMU’s ambitious goal of achieving a fully zero-emissions transit system by 2031. Since 2017, the university has been on a mission to transition to a sustainable and renewable energy future. This new funding will accelerate BTS's efforts by expanding its solar power microgrid system to 2.5 megawatts and enhancing infrastructure, including new electric buses, charging stations, and even a zero-emissions autonomous shuttle. “This initiative is not just about AAMU; it’s about setting a standard for environmental justice and sustainability that can inspire and guide other transit agencies across the country,” says Marshall Chimwedzi, Director of AAMU BTS. The project includes significant upgrades to the bus storage station, workforce development programs for solar and electric bus maintenance, and a timeline to achieve 100% zero emissions by 2031. This achievement highlights the power of partnerships and innovative thinking within the HBCU community and showcases the impactful role that HBCUs like Alabama A&M play in driving forward sustainability and environmental justice. 2024) – New national rankings from the Wall Street Journal of America’s top 500 universities recognize North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University as the nation’s No. 1 public historically Black university. The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse rankings evaluate “how well each college sets graduates up for financial success … how much a school improves students’ chances of graduating and their future earnings,” WSJ says. “We don’t measure reputation, nor the college’s own finances.” The rankings include 14 HBCU campuses, eight of them public. Trailing N.C. A&T among public campuses are, in order: Florida A&M University, North Carolina Central University, Prairie View University, Tennessee State University, Savannah State University, Jackson State University and Alcorn State University.

One medal is allocated to the General Arts programs, one to the General Social Sciences programs, and one to the General Science program to be awarded to the students with highest academic standing in each of these three general program areas as defined in the criteria set out below. Additional medals could be awarded at the discretion of the Dean, in consultation with the Provost. Medalists are judged on their total academic performance at the University of Windsor. Students must have completed at least twenty semester courses or equivalent required in their program at the University of Windsor (with the exception of the Faculty of Education). Students will be ranked by major average and must achieve at least an 83% cumulative average and major average. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for consideration. Graduates from the previous Fall Convocation will be considered for medals issued at the following Spring Convocation.
