Federal government is relenting slightly on 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 amid mounting pressure. ⚡ "Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault has seemingly given a little bit of leeway on so-called ‘clean electricity’ regulations aimed at creating a net-zero grid by 2035. 🍁 Under a series of 10 tweaks announced Friday, grid operators would have more flexibility to address peak power needs and the use of ‘stand-by’ — or ‘on demand’ power sources such as natural gas — to “support the buildout of cleaner technologies” and a more flexible approach to cogeneration. ‘Cleaner’ facilities such as natural gas would be able to run longer than comparable coal units. 👏 🍁😯 The changes would also allow for the use of so-called ‘offsets’ for power plant operators who exceed a given limit “despite having acted in good faith to remain in compliance.” 🔗 https://ow.ly/afCG50QFTlN #carbonzero #naturalresources #conservation #renewableenergy Canadian Natural Resources Enbridge FortisBC Imperial Oil First Nations LNG Alliance Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) Indigenous Resource Network Mining Association of Canada

An important component in estimating stored volumes of carbon dioxide in different lithologies is the estimated storage efficiency (akin to the recovery efficiency for hydrocarbon reservoirs). We are finding more hydrogen in its natural state underground—great article about the potential of drilling for pure hydrogen. Very interesting. From the article: The natural hydrogen industry appears to be at a stage similar to where the oil and gas enterprises were 120 years ago … we may need to drill dozens or hundreds of wells before we understand how to make this work.

The National Petroleum Council's #CCUS report laid out recommendations that are guiding CCUS industry development today. Today the National Petroleum Council released the much-awaited follow-up #Hydrogen report. Not surprising are recommendations for demand-side incentives, permitting reform, and community engagement guidelines. Somewhat surprising, recommendation #1 is "an economy-wide price on carbon well before current incentives, such as 45V, expire." https://lnkd.in/eHJAv8n4
