Exciting new options for patients with early #Alzheimer's disease! Eli Lilly's #Kisunla (#donanemab) was just approved by the FDA for treatment of early Alzheimer's disease. Now 2 disease-modifying amyloid-targeting therapies are available to patients with early #AD, as Eisai's #Leqembi (#lecanemab) was granted traditional FDA approval on July 6, 2023. Kisunla slowed cognitive and functional decline by 35% compared to placebo at 18 months in the Phase 3 #Trailblazer trial, with nearly half (47%) having no disease progression at 1 year (CDR-SB). "Diagnosing and treating Alzheimer's sooner than we do today has the potential to meaningfully slow disease progression, giving patients invaluable time to maintain their independence for longer," said Howard Fillit, MD, M.D., Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer at the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF). 👉 https://lnkd.in/gADVZ9jQ

Interesting article about miscommunication. I can relate to this article as I used to tell my dialysis patients during monthly labs review that their lab test results are good. They used to say, if they are good why am I still on dialysis. Now I say, your results are within target. What is a miscommunication you encountered with your patients?

Bristol Myers Squibb's Phase III DAYBREAK clinical trial, testing the safety and efficacy of Zeposia in relapsing multiple sclerosis, had promising data released. Strong efficacy and safety markers were achieved and produced a rate of 0.098 annualized relapses. According to the findings, most trial subjects did not have disability progression after 3 & 6 months. 89% of individuals reported treatment-emergent adverse events and 15.3% reported serious adverse events related to the medication, although no new safety concerns were reported (all were already known possible effects of Zeposia). 2.2% of individuals who stopped the medication before a given timeframe had MS relapses. Breaking News: Eli Lilly and Company announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Kisunla (donanemab) for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) for adults with early symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease (AD), which includes mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild dementia stage of the disease. This approval provides hope for people living with early symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease and their loved ones. With this approval, appropriate patients now have an additional treatment option to treat their Alzheimer’s disease. 🧠 The FDA has approved Eli Lilly’s drug Kisunla (donanemab) for use in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia, making it the third amyloid-clearing therapy to enter the market. ⚔️ This approval puts the drug head-to-head with Leqembi, a competitor from Eisai and Biogen. While Kisunla has a higher annual price than Leqembi ($32K vs. $27K), it could potentially be cheaper overall, as treatment may be stopped if amyloid levels in patients’ brains are significantly cleared, as shown in clinical trials and mentioned in the dosing strategy of the FDA’s label. 🏥 The next steps for Lilly include avoiding the sluggish launch that befell Leqembi. Earlier AD diagnosis and streamlined infrastructure for patients to receive infusions at specialised centres will be crucial.
