I have been more detached from the Oracle community recently, attending more #microsoft conferences, however I really enjoyed seeing what #oracle are up to at #ukougconf23 last week. It was great ctaching up with the Oracle ACE Directors #oracleace who travelled for it - great hug to go with the information sharing from Basheer Khan.
The highight was hearing about what is going on with #oraclehealthcare. It reminds me of the energy around #oraclehospitality that a good API friend of mine is playing a part in. Oracle continues to strengthen its SaaS offering.
🏥 First up and where a lot of the passion for improved outcomes for the patients is coming from, especially improving the lives of children, was Kelly Pierce MBE on the Future of Connected Healthcare. My first developer job was on Healthcare software and it previous to this talk it felt like not much had changed since then. I think and hope Kelly will change that with her vision. Very inspiring. I could have listened to her stories and strategies for better outcomes all day - a bit of a tear-jerker at times when you realise how a better use of data and technology will save lives.
😷 Next was Grant Ronald showing us the next-gen Healthcare Digital Assistant. Talking through the challenges and the use cases of how it will make a step-change difference in productivity for Doctors and Clinicians. Who can argue with that proposition and wow, this is an impressive solution. Griffiths Waite chatted with Grant on digital assistants and conversational UI (as oppossed to mere chatbots) about 4 years ago, the advance in the interface, language understanding and features in that time is astounding. It is a profession where accuracy is imperative and constant "Did you mean.." feedback is not acceptable, it needs to be right first time. Great promise and looking forward to seeing it in action in the future when I'm in need of medical help.
⚽ Lastly was Abigail Giles-Haigh identifying patterns in the graph representation of a football match to analyse and identify the key player in the England football team that won the Euros in 2022 and why they didn't win the World Cup this year. Such a great, engaging and interactive presentation style. Mixing theory with practical exampes - I learnt a lot about Graph databases, pattern recognition, truly insightful analytics and a bit about Wallsend Women FC, who I will go and support if they play a cup match near Birmingham.
If you get chance to look at what Oracle are doing in Healthcare please do and if you see any of these presenters at a conference near you, attend. It will brighten up your day.
