While most people have had a job, few people have had the opportunity to own a piece of the company they work for. Employee ownership is a unique experience, and workers learning about it for the first time are likely asking themselves: “you say I’m an employee-owner, what do I own?” In our most recent blog post, Thomas Dudley examines the answer to that question, and what asking it could mean for your company’s ownership culture. https://lnkd.in/gDH2Py8k

Excellent content from Thomas Dudley answering the fundamental question for employee owners about what they own. With 50% of low income workers having zero retirement per #nceo, it is helpful to start with the basics and build knowledge from there. “The ownership of a company is broken down into fractional pieces called shares of stock. The owners of the stock, also known as the shareholders, are entitled to the current and future profits of the company.” #eo #employeeownership #financialliteracy #ownit

-- Employee Ownership in a Business-- Incentivizing employees through employee ownership is a powerful strategy that combines motivation and ownership in the workplace. Let's explore three key aspects to effectively implement an employee ownership program: 1. Ownership Culture: Fostering an ownership culture empowers employees to feel a sense of pride and responsibility in the success of the company. Encouraging transparency, open communication, and involving employees in decision-making processes can cultivate a strong ownership mindset. 2. Equitable Distribution: Designing a fair and equitable employee ownership structure is essential. Providing employees with ownership stakes, such as stock options or profit-sharing plans, aligns their interests with the long-term success of the company. Ensuring that ownership opportunities are accessible to all employees promotes inclusivity and boosts morale. 3. Educating and Engaging: Educating employees about the benefits and mechanics of employee ownership is crucial for their active participation. Regularly communicating the impact of their ownership on the company's performance and involving them in strategic discussions fosters a sense of belonging and encourages them to contribute their best efforts. By implementing an employee ownership program that focuses on cultivating an ownership culture, providing equitable ownership opportunities, and engaging employees through education and communication, businesses can create a motivating work environment that drives success. #employeeownership #motivation #ownership #employees 2023-166094 Exp. 12/25

One of my biggest values for our team = Always Be Learning Yesterday I had a virtual coffee with one of our new team members. I loved it when she started giving me examples of our principles (I didn't ask she just started talking about them). Not only proving she'd read our employee handbook we spent years updating but also that she is already applying these principles with our client partners. Here's the extract from our handbook. Do you communicate your business philosophy to your team?

Research shows that senior management’s genuine interest in employee well-being, has the largest impact on the discretionary efforts by the employees. Unfortunately, some organizations give lip service to the concept that "employees are their greatest asset." Organizations that can communicate this message through their action, will be the ones to effectively achieve world-class levels. As one respondent so aptly described- "A world class organization always recognizes employees as essential to its success."

I Train First Responders in Suicide Prevention | Helping Create a Meaningful Workplace | PhD student in Human Capital Development
If you give employees the right experience, you’ll get the engagement. I remember the first time I heard about employee engagement. I was working on a large federal contract and the Gallup Poll news came out that only about 33% of U.S. employees are engaged at work. At first, I was shocked. But it didn’t take long for me to look around at our 800 employees and realize this was true. This began my deep interest in employee engagement, career development, and career coaching. I’ve been on employee engagement committees. I’ve read articles and books, listened to seminars, and been on Zoom calls about engagement. But it wasn’t until I heard Jacob Morgan talk about the Employee Experience, that I had my, "That’s It!" moment. Morgan explains in the below video that Employee Experience is about 3 things: 1. Technology—Does it work? Can employees use it? 2. Space—Is the work area conducive to working? Do you see your company values in action? 3. Culture—What are the company values, rituals, and symbols? How do you feel about working for the company? Morgan says Technology accounts for about 30% of the experience. Space/Setting accounts for 30% and Culture accounts for 40%. As companies and employees get further out of alignment with the three categories, the less likely the employee is going to have a good experience and the more likely they are not going to like their job. It doesn’t matter how many “Game Nights,” you have at the local watering hole. If the employee’s computer doesn’t work right, they come to work and have to sit in an uncomfortable chair at a folding card table, and the company’s culture has never been conveyed, so it forms itself, there’s a good chance that workers won’t be happy. (If your work culture is, “Work hard, play hard,” you may want to update that cliché.) If you don’t get these three things right, your employee’s experience will not be great, and then it doesn't matter how much engagement you try to impose. It’s not going to work. The good news is that all three categories can be shaped by your company. Here’s the road map how: https://lnkd.in/g4zM7wKD
