When I used your interpreting services it helped letting the operator know the subject matter to better match an interpreter that felt comfortable within the specific subject. (For reference one of our topics was medical interpretations). You can also give a moment to brief the interpreter. For example, we are calling a hospital in x country to see if they provide English translations to patients, and x,y,z services.
Your services were amazing and the interpreters were all very talented.
HOW TO BECOME A GREAT INTERPRETER PART 2.
THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD CONCENTRATION AND STAYING FOCUSED.
Inorder to become a great interpreter and demonstrate mastery of your work, you aught to be someone who is capable of concentrating and remain focused regardless of the eventual distractions that might appear.
Whether you are doing simultaneous, consecutive or sight interpretation you have to stay focused so as to give coherent and complete sentences and ideas.
During simultaneous interpretation, sometimes the original speaker might be disorganized, he might be starting sentences and before completing them starts onother one, he might make incomplete ideas, but as an interpreter with good concentration skills, you are supposed to complete each sentence and each idea before beginning onother one.
An interpreter is supposed to polish up the message of the speaker and present it in the most comprehensive way possible.
We don’t interpret words but the message as a whole, that means you have to understand the mind, the intentions and and the spirit of the speaker inorder to be coherent in your rendition.
If you are stressed, continuously distracted and nervous, your prestation risks to be meaningless and incomprehensible to those who are listening to you.
Remember, you are the man of the match, the success of the conference depends on you. You have no right to error. You just have to give your best.

Did you know?
As a conference interpreter you have to be cautious and empathetic with your audience.
- Handle the microphone with professionalism.
- Switch it on only when you have to interpret then immediately switch it off when you are done speaking.
- Avoid chatting with your booth mates with the microphone on.
- Avoid fidgeting with the microphone on.
- If you feel like coughing or sneezing while interpreting, please switch off your microphone and switch it on when you are done.
- As long as the microphone is on, let there be no unnecessary noise in the booth.
- Always put yourself in the shoes of those who are listening to you.
Can you imagine someone coughing, sneezing, laughing or making noise in your ears,, that’s unacceptable.
I hope you will be more cautious with your microphone next time.

Clarifying consecutive interpreting
Consecutive interpreting is one of the longest-established methods of interpreting and works in multiple business settings.
The interpreter sits with the source-language speaker and listens for a few minutes at a time. During a short pause by the speaker, the interpreter will then deliver the translated message in short chunks of two, five or up to ten minutes to the audience.
So, is it the best choice for your event?
Consecutive interpreting is usually the best choice for events where there is one speaker or a few speakers, and an audience consisting of one target language. It minimises the need of complex technology and equipment such as soundproof booths, so it can be cost-effective for businesses needing translation services.
