There is a growing number of businesses and jobs that address climate change today. The investments being made by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act are creating a greater demand for clean energy workers to meet the net-zero emissions target by 2050. Watch this short video to learn about U.S. community colleges offering programs that give hands-on training related to climate change solutions. I wanted to share this upcoming webinar. We are working with local school districts, community colleges, universities and other non-profits to help them capture the Federal incentives which can make or break their ability to add those sustainable improvements to their projects. Let me know if you have a project to discuss. #buildbetter

Impractical green aspirations undermine our ability to hit targets. Going back to my university days, the electricity grid is designed for thoes hot days in summer when we all get home and turn on the AC. Given that having one AC was the exception and now having 3 or more is common, adding induction cooking to the grid was not going to work. It's always good to check the physics before making policy. https://lnkd.in/gFG7tKTG

According to ZeroPositive.org, a not-for-profit emissions reduction program, supported by the United Nations, the school system is the fifth largest emitter of Carbon Dioxide and Equivalent (CO2e), in Australia. If you are shocked by this statement, then ask yourself - what can teachers and schools do to change this? Find out more:

🔥 “The forces resisting change are still powerful. They are at work across the nation, fomenting lies and confusion wherever clean energy is discussed. We need a citizenry so engaged on this issue that it stands up to counter the disinformation — not just in Washington, but in every city hall, every school board, every state house and every utility commission.” – Op-ed by Justin Gillis and Hal Harvey published by the The New York Times. We need a citizenry so engaged! ✨And ooh, did someone say utility commissions?✨ We have a playbook for that. "The power grid in your state is under the control of a political body known as a public utilities commission... By law, these boards are supposed to listen to citizens and make decisions in the public interest, but the public rarely weighs in." Rarely weighs in. If ever. We're changing that. Changemakers are currently contacting PUCs (and doing a few other influential things!) to improve the US power grid using a 5-Step Action Plan: https://lnkd.in/gqtxKmK7 This opinion piece was written in 2022, just weeks after our landmark climate law, the Inflation Reduction Act, was passed by Congress. It all holds true. https://lnkd.in/g-UnrKHZ For everyone who want to engage but didn't know where to start 👉 Climate Changemakers is the most robust climate action hub on the internet! If you're interested in any call to action mentioned in this article, or want to write your own op-ed, we have a playbook for it (and our community is pretty fun too) 👊 #climatesolutions #utilities #cleanenergy #disinformation #nyt #climatewin #climatetech #cleanenergy #electrifyeverything #electricschoolbuses #evs #transmissionreform

Universities and colleges are able to act as important enablers of change especially in Climate adaptation and d mitigation. Actions can occur through teaching, research, providing service, building partnerships with communities, providing platforms for public debate, and then critically - making campuses implementation sites for climate actions and innovations. Students can build bridges to the larger societies to carry their experiential learning and problem solving abilities. Universities can also guide and advise governments at all levels. Net zero then is expected to build on these principles - commit, assess and organise, plan and strategise, implement and innovate and monitor and evaluate. Greenhouse gas inventory, milestones, targets, financing, amplifying innovations and such details need to be addressed within these principles. #netzerotransition #universities #studentengagement #climatechange #decarbonise #energy #renewables #resilience #climatefinance #netzero https://lnkd.in/dCZ-uFJy

Thrilled to have passed one of the biggest environmental priorities of the year--HB 1368 re: 100% Clean School Buses! Great write up by Leah Missik about the windy road toward its passage. But we did not give up and have created a fabulous policy that starts with grants to school districts in overburdened communities for electric buses and related infrastructure, and then helps guide the transition for all school districts once there is cost parity. And spoiler alert: we secured $40 million for those grants! #environment #climatesolutions #electricbuses

Online Classroom, Climate Change Literacy: Fundamentals of Carbon Accounting for Engineers will take place on Tuesday, 25th of June. This course, delivered by Sarah O'Dwyer, aims to provide delegates with an overview of the Greenhouse Gases (GHG’s) which contribute to climate change, their major sources, relative contributions, and how they are measured. It will provide an introduction into how these combine, through Carbon Dioxide Equivalents (CO2-eq), to form Carbon Footprint/s (CF) and the standard methods used to calculate the CF.
