Some really interesting ideas in this article from Jennifer McNally writing for the Club Management Association of America magazine. Waiting lists were almost a thing of the past pre-covid, but we’re seeing them more and more often in both the U.K. and U.S. This is a great problem for the industry to have, but if you’re one of the clubs facing this issue, what are you doing to keep your prospective members engaged? I think many of the ideas Jennifer looks at are very similar to good practice for engaging and retaining members once you have them. Whether potential customers are waiting to join, or new members are getting their first taste of your club, you need to pay them special attention. Leaving alone and hoping they’ll look after themselves is a sure fire way of saying goodbye to their business! I particularly like the idea of inviting prospective members into the social side of the club or the coaching academy so you can start showing value even before their full golfing membership starts.
