Last week I had the pleasure to share our insights on carbon based structural design for building Paris Proof at the Forum #ANATOMY_OF_TIMBER /Building, organized by Delft University of Technology and Technische Universität Darmstadt, BK-wood group. 🌍 For building Paris Proof cutting carbon emissions in the structural design is urgent! 👨🎓 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀!  Last Friday, #expertatplay Joshua Marysse contributed to the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 event hosted by ABTUS-BVOTS - the belgian tunnel association - which this year focused on sustainability. 🌱 In his presentation, Joshua discussed a sustainable material trade-off for bicycle tunnels, comparing in-situ poured concrete and corrugated steel sheets. He emphasized the importance of considering all facets of sustainability when making decisions, including: ✅ technical durability, ✅ environmental impact and ✅ circularity potential. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲-𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀. This week we want to highlight the achievements and milestones of our Junior Enterprises! 🚀💫 Starting off with icons - consulting by students with their CO₂ Emissions Calculator. 💪📊 In 2024, the construction industry was responsible for about 38% of global CO₂ emissions, meaning it has significant leverage when it comes to reducing emissions. 📉 Motivated by their commitment to sustainability, icons partnered with the BIG Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft m.b.H. at the end of 2023 to conduct a project aimed at calculating CO₂ emissions during the building phases of construction.🚧🔎 As part of the project, they analysed and calculated the emissions for the construction phases A4 (transportation of building materials and equipment to the site) and A5 (all on-site processes during the construction of a building). 📋🧐 Icons quantified the CO₂ emissions for each activity as well as the total emissions for both phase, identifying critical emission sources to enable targeted measures for emission reduction. 📝 The created model can be used, not only for reducing emissions, but also for raising stakeholder awareness and enhancing their understanding of sustainable building practices. 📉🌳👷 Through this project, icons not only made a significant contribution to more environmentally friendly construction practices but also won the "Most Sustainable JE" award, which recognizes the project's sustainable impact.🏆🌱  #achievement #juniorenterprisesaustria #sustainability #co2emissions #reducingemissions #icons

Buildings are responsible for over a third of annual global CO2 emissions. 🌍  The importance of energy efficiency, circular economy and renovation in this sector is correspondingly high. This includes using existing building materials and renewable energies, increasing the life cycle of a building, etc.: The implementation of the national klimaaktiv criteria for sustainable construction in the #AustrianGreenPlanetBuilding Award is perhaps only a small contribution to reducing the ecological footprint of the building sector. But it often takes small stones to get the big ones rolling.
