Greetings connections! Today I’m sharing the value of applying knowledge you learnt through uni courses in real life . I am currently in my second year of bachelors of psychology and to be honest I never thought I would study psychology but this subject has changed my life . It has changed my mindset, my perspective, my approach towards other people and other people’s approach towards me. I want to specifically share a course I studied last year PSYC1005 - The Well-being Formula led by Dr Eryn Newman . This course was a requirement for my degree and I highly recommend this course . The course consisted of 500 words short reflection tasks each week that made you focus on well-being , mindfulness and goal setting . One of the major assessment of this course was the application of S.M.A.R.T goals in real life and writing it in an essay . As a reflective learner, this course helped me being aware of my biases , what was something that was limiting me from discovering my actual potential while increasing my well-being. I felt so calm and content whenever I studied that course. Most importantly, this course helped me not only set goals but know exactly how to achieve them . This year was all about using the learning and applying it in real life . I am myself surprised and shocked that every goal of mine that I set through the learnings , reflections and strategies through this course , I was not only able to accomplish them but do them well before the deadline. Further, a couple days ago someone asked my what’s your 20th birthday wishlist and it hit me then that I achieved everything that was on my agenda before my birthday. The key message from this post is the power you hold . Education is a great power but how you use this power in your favour sets you apart. Universities and professors spend so much effort making a course and learning outcomes but studying them for the sake of studying is like just getting through the degree but not being in the degree. I love studying and I love applying the knowledge I have studied in my real life because that makes me different, that gives me power. It gives me wings to explore and fly. Thankyou ANU Health and Medicine for introducing this course and The Australian National University for the quality education. I am so very grateful to be here and be a part of change . #GoalSetting #Psychology #ANU #Educationisthepower

From Darkness to Light 🌍 “Turn your wounds into wisdom.” – Oprah Winfrey 🌟 Today, I wish to share a personal journey from a period of darkness, akin to the challenges some of my students, mentees, and friends face each winter. Between 2010 and 2011, I experienced the depths of depression, a time marred by significant loss and grief. The departure of two grandfathers, a lifelong friend, and a faithful church mentor plunged me into sadness and 9-month depression. 🛞It was like driving into a completely dark tunnel. S A D I had many questions about L I f E My faith was G O N E I didn't know what to do. I couldn't S M I L E I lost H O P E Coming out the darkness, I’m simply grateful for the 💡 light. It taught me to cherish each moment, however ordinary, post-recovery. This experience wasn’t just about overcoming but about transforming. In our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4.7 (SDG 4.7) – to ensure all learners acquire the knowledge and skills for sustainable development – recognising the importance of mental health and emotional resilience is vital. Our experiences, particularly the challenging ones, endow us with unique perspectives and empathy, crucial for fostering inclusive and equitable quality education. If you are going through the similar dark phases: there is beauty and strength in these times. They’re not merely hurdles but stepping stones towards a more profound, empathetic understanding of life and those around us.🔭 With warmth and light, Melissa #SDG4 #MentalHealthAwareness #Resilience #EmotionalWellbeing #EducationForAll Alexander Kolosov #Empathy #SustainableDevelopment #Hope #SDGMamaMe #OvercomingChallenges

When we submit to the norm, we don’t get access beyond it. 😮 We are looking to work closely with 5 high achievers who are ready to be catapulted to a place they never thought possible… and all BY THEIR OWN HAND! I know it sounds too good to be true… Is that what your brain is saying? Let me share something with you… Our brain seeks the familiar. We can call it Dogma or Conditioning, but regardless it's our attachment to the norm which HOLDS US BACK from the success we deserve. The success (or healing) we are just days, or even moments away from accessing if we had the right map and guidance. With myopic or hypnotized minds we reject what isn't in the textbooks or accepted by the common voices. When we do this we deny ourselves the chance to reach beyond what HASN’T worked for us. And when we submit to the norm, we don’t get access beyond it. I did that for a long time and after many stubborn attempts to use the "normal" or common ways to treat my issues, I finally reached for something OUTSIDE the norm! I stopped arguing for my limitations! What did I do? ~ I put the responsibility back onto myself ~Worked diligently on all areas I was stuck or weak… not just the symptoms. ~Discovered the EXACT way to reach relief & clarity (mentally, emotionally and even my physical body!) This allowed me to be CATAPULTED!!! 🏃♀️ Physically= Severe spinal injury HEALED ❤️ Relationally= Discordant and blame-filled connections REPAIRED, became a better PARENT AND PARTNER 🧘♀️ Emotionally= Depression, fear & embarrassment turned to PEACE 🧠 Mentally= Confusion and chaos to LEVELHEADEDNESS & CLARITY 💫 Professionally= Advanced in occupational & financial wellbeing began teaching, speaking and started a surprisingly new career using my PURPOSE as it all became clear!! AND SO MUCH MORE! I’ve reverse engineered this process (along with my partner’s WORLD CLASS teachings) to be able to offer it to YOU. That is why we founded Lifted Academy! We help people overcome lifelong struggles and become the leader of their own lives by showing them the secrets to huge, sustainable change. If you knew what I learned, how far could you go? A quantum leap? 🎇

In July 2022, I had the privilege of attending a transformative 3-day seminar titled 'Family in the Wilderness.' One poignant statement from a panelist deeply resonated with me: "In a world sorruended with misinformation and disinformation, where the sanctity of family values are under attack, we urgently need more defenders of truth to guide the rising generation and families along their covenant path". This declaration stirred something profound within me, prompting me to embark on a new chapter. In September 2022, I took a bold step forward by enrolling at BYU Pathway, where I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Professional Studies with a focus on Marriage and Family Relationships, alongside Child Advocacy. Simultaneously, I sought out additional courses from various educational institutions, driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to broaden my educational horizons. The journey has not been without its challenges. Yet, with unwavering faith, resilience, and a commitment to growth, I find myself steadily progressing along the right path. Last month marked a significant milestone as I received a diploma in Educational Psychology and today I received a Diploma in Mental Health from Alison, validating the fruits of my labor. At 42 years old, the prospect of returning to academia seemed improbable, if not daunting. Yet, I've come to realize that age is but a number, and circumstances need not dictate one's trajectory. There is profound fulfillment in equipping oneself with the tools and knowledge needed to support and uplift the next generation and struggling families. "In a world inundated with misinformation and disinformation, where the sanctity of family values are under attack...", I am compelled to stand as a beacon of truth and hope. For I believe that irrespective of age or setbacks, we possess the agency to rise stronger and wiser, charting our own course amidst life's ebbs and flows. Whether you believe you can or cannot, you are correct. May this serve as a reminder that our choices shape our destiny, and with determination and purpose, we can transcend any obstacle that stands in our way. #MentalHealth #Alison #HigherEducation #GrowthMindset #Success

From decades of experience working with adult students, I know the challenges that can be encountered when we sincerely want to make a change, or add new behaviours and skills to our existing set. Like many of you, highly successful adults, who perhaps have done numerous programs on achievement, still can come unstuck navigating change over time. There are many many pitfalls. When we commit to some sort of future goal that will result in real change, we introduce activities into our lives that are unfamiliar and uncomfortable. We can’t make fun what is not fun, or easy what is not easy… but we can learn to persist: To not quit. To do this, we need to understand how we, as humans, respond to change. We need to see the experience for what it is: Different from our everyday activities. Most significant goals we choose may require many years of consistent actions. The game in achievement is persistence. One effective step today, followed by another, over perhaps a long time. There are many obstacles standing in the way of persistence. This day is about coming to understand the unique nature of pursuing goals. From there, learning how to control your mind during these times, and a specific set of strategies to navigate the unusual demands of goal achievement, keeping us in the game long enough to enjoy the benefits. After the success and glowing feedback we received from our February workshop with Dr. Burns, we are excited to have her presenting again with The Bringing Your Goals to Reality Workshop. This is not an event to be missed, and we hope you will join us on this transformative experience. If you would like to find out more about the workshop please visit our website https://buff.ly/4gpwC1G The details: 🗓️ Tuesday, 1st of October 2024 ⏰ 9:00am to 5:00pm 📍 Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park - 161 Elizabeth St, Sydney NSW 2000 🎟️ To purchase your ticket please visit https://buff.ly/4gpwC1G Group booking discounts are available. The next transition from high school to college that I want to discuss with you is the emotional transition. Again, I'm borrowing from journalist and speaker Harlan Cohen, and adding some of my own thoughts. Here are some things to consider about the emotional transition: 1. Develop a plan to manage homesickness. Every college student, particularly those who attend college far from home, experiences homesickness. There is an important balance between staying connected to people from home and at the same time exploring new relationships with college peers. I suggest making a plan ahead of time for how frequently you want to communicate with your parents and friends, and sticking to it. I also recommend not going home, or having family visit you, until at least fall break (usually in October), so you can lean into being fully present with your experience at college. 2. Know who your support team is. If you regularly see a therapist, consider continuing that therapy by phone or Zoom. Or find a new therapist or counselor you can meet with regularly while you're in college. Having regular opportunities to talk about your emotional health, and make a plan to address it, can head off more serious emotional problems down the line. 3. Create habits that support your emotional well being. Practice self-care by exercising, eating well, getting enough sleep, and spending time in nature. Focus on strengths, possibilities, and potential solutions, rather than dwelling on negative aspects. Develop a practice of mindfulness: be aware of what's happening in the present, both internally and externally. 4. Avoid excessive alcohol and drug consumption. Because alcohol is a social lubricant, some college students immediately define themselves socially around parties and drinking. This is terrible for your brain. Challenge yourself to develop emotional and social resilience without relying on alcohol. If you'd like to learn more about various kinds of transitions from high school to college, please use the contact form on my website to reach out. #collegeadmissionscounseling #collegecounseling #iec #cac #collegecounselor #emotionaltransition #collegeadmissionsconsultant

As Madonna kinda sang … 🎶 ‘We Are Living In A Neurotypical World .. and I am an Atypical Girl …’ 🎶 Thank you Harriet Richardson 😃 Your phenomenal visuals really hit the spot again! Removing barriers and asking for adjustments is an internal process too. Being able to recognise the need for support and communicate these needs is so vital to wellbeing and not an easy process: It’s a journey to remove expectations (and judgements) self-imposed, to develop self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-compassion having often journeyed for so many years - often making great efforts to Perform and Achieve - as if our profiles weren’t spikey, and in accordance with personal aspirations & internalised external expectations. It’s a huge learning process to discover and develop * our passions, skills and abilities - beyond the limitations of environments and assessments designed to test fish to climb trees & ‘wiggly paths’ (educational / career) resulting * the confidence to be able to identify and articulate our needs and request adjustments that would remove or reduce barriers experienced when attempting to access environments (educational / work place settings, social, etc), demonstrate and use our fantabulous skill sets. * the ability to communicate in ways that are comfortable, the need for Reasonable Adjustments required in order to do access and demonstrate settings (educational and workplace) and to thrive on the journey towards discovering and demonstrating our often-unique and impressive skills and abilities.
