💭 Another thoughtful workshop hosted by Edward De La Torre, Ed.D! Students from BRDG and CSUF had the opportunity to dive deeper into two crucial workforce traits: critical thinking and problem solving. Throughout the workshop, students got to practice these important skills through engaging activities and discussions. What did we find? 🚧 💡 Critical thinking is essential for decision-making, while creativity fuels problem solving! 👀 Our decision-making process and ideas are linked to our unique perceptions, shaped by our individual experiences and guided by how we interpret our sensations. 🧠 Decision-making is a combination of our cognition, personality, and emotions. Although critical thinking and problem solving continue to be highly valued individual skills, using these skills in a team setting is just as important. Keep developing these skills through practice, and see how you can benefit from it! 🚀 Thank you to Edward for helping students learn about these essential traits in the workforce as they go through their professional journeys! 🙏 Additionally, thank you to Bill Gervasi and Jay Kramer for joining us during this workshop! Some behavior analysts may hate this… but, for all we have going for us in teaching people new things, we don’t do great thinking outside of the box. There’s a wealth of information in Adult Learning Theory that can enhance our supervision practices, and a lot of it easily translates to a behavioral approach. Even “Self-Concept” can be contextualized behaviorally through an ACT paradigm! ✨ Ready to discover how Adult Learning Theory can help you level up your skills? Join us for our upcoming CEU on 5/2/2024! ✨ Here's the link! https://lnkd.in/gPmYKGFp #appliedbehavioranalysis #bcba #obm #behavioranalyst #behavioranalysis #behaviorchange Moralis Machina

Question Quest: When do you feel you are learning? We are teachers and learning is at the heart of everything we do, but what exactly is learning? Over the centuries, countless definitions have emerged—from developmental psychologists to philosophers and spiritual leaders have used different lenses to describe it. SESSION 3 WORKSHOP 9: Responding to Behaviors With Compassion in the School Setting Friday April 26, 2024 from 2:10-3:00 PM Salon II Nicola Schneider, MA, BCBA 1.0 Learning CEU 1.0 Ethics CEU School-based settings have long relied on coercive and compliance-based practices to decrease behavioral challenges. Direct feedback from neurodivergent individuals about their school experiences is more readily available to mainstream society through social media. This attention on past practices as well as recent research on assent-based procedures within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis is reshaping how we address behaviors within the school environment. School-based staff continue to face an uphill battle when attempting to embed the values of trauma-assumed and compassionate care in the educational setting. Using skill-building, rather than escape extinction procedures early in the behavioral escalation cycle, we can not only prevent unsafe behaviors, but also increase coping and problem solving strategies. By understanding how and when to honor assent withdrawal within the classroom, we will be better equipped to respond to students who are not available to learn. In reframing our responses to unwanted behavior, we can leave behind outdated practices without compromising the effectiveness of interventions. IBCP Career and Guidance certified/Pedagogy analyst and curriculum designer/ IBDP TOK , IB Psychology, ESS, and Extended Essay Expert/ AP Psychology/A level Psychology/ IB MYP & IGCSE English/SEV7N Team member
Big concepts made crazily simple in IB Psychology I have seen many teachers cherishing for high scorers in their teaching window...imagine some readymade good food in the platter. But what about imagining ourselves as the real 5 star chefs creating a crazily excellent platter with some raw materials. These raw materials are students who might not be the so called good ones or the toppers. The catch of the 5 star mentorship skill is to carve their learning curves, instilling a belief in them that they can excel. But how???? They should be bolstered by mentors and not be overwhelmed. They need the added cushioning to learn big concepts in simplistic manner. I have conceptualised some super simple titbits, quick shots, easy pills for my students, who have shared that the big concepts like research methods, researcher bias, MRI, fMRI, neurotransmission, localization and its assiciation with neurotransmitters and hormones, secrets of HM's memory, heuristic validity of schema and memory construction, and many many have been made super simple- so simple and solid that they have reached 20/22 already in ERQs....I use different learning tools with mnemonics, semantic encoding, empathy maps, self-reference effect, and many more. My mentorship strategies heavily depend on my understanding that every student is genius, inherently adaptive, curious, and hungry to learn new things....which need to be presented in their uniquely demanded style. My students have started believing through perception that it is exciting to "stay hungry and stay foolish"! #teachingstrategies #ATTL #IB #inclusive #creativity #IBpsychology #ibdp #ibo

Educating students holistically includes academics, but more increasingly, it demands explicit social, emotional and behavioral support and development. When students present with behaviors that challenge, they are communicating and expressing their feelings. It behooves us to listen and respond appropriately. Learning to proactively define, deflect, respond, and de-escalate behaviors that challenge is most successful when there are trusting relationships, clearly articulated routines, and opportunities to practice and grow resilience. Up-skilling to meet the demands and stay relevant! #Leadingwithheart #CISS
