*You may suffer huge delays if you are shipping cargo to Navegantes port*
Since November 2023, the maritime logistics sector has been facing significant challenges due to the omission of scales at the port of Navegantes by major carriers, including ONE, Hyundai, MSC, and CMA CGM. These omissions, extending into March 2024, highlight a recurring issue that directly impacts the increased transit time of goods, affecting the efficiency of supply chains and customer satisfaction.
The situation has been marked by events such as the omission of the port of Navegantes by the MSC ALESSIA vessel, notified by MSC, and the operational restriction that led the CMA CGM LITANI to omit its call at this port, with cargoes being redirected to Santos and subsequently to Itapoá. These logistical changes not only complicate the delivery of cargoes but significantly prolong the time required for goods to reach their final destination.
The reasons behind these omissions are varied, including congestion, operational restrictions, and infrastructure limitations. Issues such as the renovations at Portonave and the draft problems in Itajaí exacerbate these challenges, imposing additional costs and delays that reverberate throughout the value chain.
Choosing Itapoá as an emergency alternative to mitigate delays reflects a temporary solution that, while necessary, does not address the root causes of these problems. Thus, a collaborative effort among carriers, port authorities, and stakeholders is imperative to develop long-term solutions focused on improving port infrastructure, optimizing processes, and adopting advanced technologies for logistics management.
This call to action underscores the need for collaborative and innovative approaches to address the challenges of maritime transport. Investments in sustainable and efficient solutions are essential to ensure the smooth flow of global trade, improve the competitiveness of South American ports internationally, and guarantee customer satisfaction and trust. Adapting and proactively responding to these issues will not only strengthen the resilience of supply chains but will also significantly contribute to regional economic growth and development.
