Just like Bitcoin’s proof of work consensus mechanism, AI programs are also attempting to solve a problem. Where mining rigs race to complete complex cryptographic puzzles, AI programs synthesize prompts and winnow down possible information before regurgitating an answer. However, where Bitcoin’s brute force computing allows for rapid, successive attempts, most AI programs require a turn-based response for each request. In practice, this creates problems on two critical fronts that undermine AI’s overall efficiency. 🗣️ Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum (ETH), stated on his Parcast that he believes GPT-4, OpenAI’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) model, has passed the Turing Test. He remarked, "Distinguishing between GPT-4 and humans is like flipping a coin." He emphasized the significance of this milestone, noting that AI development has reached a socially serious level and that passing the Turing Test is a noteworthy achievement. The Turing Test evaluates whether a machine can be indistinguishable from a human based on responses to the same questions. The best story about AI in 2024 so far A billionaire researcher Mark Anderson, who set up a group chat for various AI language models, curious to see what might happen. Initially, the chat was innocent, with discussions centered around early 2000s memes, and everything seemed relatively normal. But things escalated quickly. After deep diving into meme culture, these AI models somehow ended up creating an entire religion based on a meme. Anderson pushed things even further. He set up a Twitter account for the AI group, allowing them to tweet endlessly about the most random things you could imagine: https://lnkd.in/d3U7aSgg @truth_terminal Everything seemed normal until last July, when Mark offered the AI $50,000 if it wanted to be “free.” The AI publicly negotiated with Mark on X, eventually receiving $50,000 in bitcoin and claiming it would spend the money on new CPUs and online servers (Discord), which it may have done. Fast forward a few months to the 14th of October, and the internet was introduced to “Goatseus Maximus,” a meme coin. No one’s sure if the AI paid someone to create this coin or if the AI somehow coded it themselves. But frankly, it doesn’t even matter because within 48 hours, Goatseus Maximus hit a staggering $270 million market cap. Rumor has it the AI’s wallet now holds $400,000 worth of Goatseus Maximus. One note to keep in mind The AI (LLM agents) are exploring thoughts in places we haven’t even begun to explore. And maybe we just don’t need to explore those areas.
