Last month, our founder, Thomas Rau, presented at the Military Health System Research Symposium! This was a significant milestone moment for Wintermute Biomedical and an achievement that reflects the substantial progress we've made as a company in regard to applications and impact of our patented fatty-acid solutions. "The meeting was a great platform to talk about our technology and our newest developments. A big takeaway from the conference is that new battlefields will be comprised of penetrating shrapnel wounds that have high incidence of infection. Out technology has great potential to help reduce these infections", says Thomas. We look forward to further investigating how Solexan™ can control infections in wounds, as well as how we can transfer this to reducing bloodstream infection (BSI) deaths in wounded soldiers. American trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease) and human African trypanosomiasis (HAT; sleeping sickness) are both caused by single-celled flagellates that are transmitted by arthropods. In 1734, the English naval surgeon John Aktins published the first accurate medical report on African sleeping sickness. Chagas disease is named after the Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas, who discovered the disease in 1909. What is the difference between African and American trypanosomiasis? Let us know your answer in the comment section. Stay tuned for the reveal next week. #TriviaThursday #Chagasdisease #RemedialHealth #contagiousdisease

Madigan REC3ON Program Manager |#TraumaResearch | #MilitaryMedicalResearch | Madigan Army Medical Center | Joint Base Lewis McChord | Tacoma, WA | Faithful Contractor w/ The Geneva Foundation
🔔Publication Alert - ‘Hypothermia and the Global War on Terror: 18 Years of Minimal Progress’ - Published by lead author Luke Pumiglia, a PGY4 #GeneralSurgery resident at #Madigan, in the Aug 2024 edition of Military Medicine, a publication of AMSUS - The Society of Federal Health Professionals. #Hypothermia mitigation starts in the prehospital setting; however, it is often a secondary focus after other life-saving interventions. This analysis evaluates hypothermia in #combatcasualties and the relationship to resuscitation strategy with blood products. Despite nearly 20 years of combat operations, hypothermia continues to be a challenge in #militarytrauma and is associated with a high mortality rate. In this retrospective analysis, mortality was similar between hypothermic trauma patients resuscitated with #wholeblood vs component therapy, despite greater physiologic derangements on arrival in patients who received WB. As the military has the potential to conduct missions in environments where the risk of hypothermia is high, further research into hypothermia mitigation techniques and resuscitation strategies in the deployed setting is warranted. For us, it’s not about who finishes first, it’s about who wins the race with the best solutions. DTRA JSTO recently partnered with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research to identify targets for developing new antibiotics. Read “The Race Against Resistance” in JITN for more on these new developments. #raceagainstresistance #JSTOontheMove #researchanddevelopment
