#21stExam - Next week I sit for my 21st Financial, Insurance, and Risk Management related Exam. This is the 2nd of 5 Institutes required to obtain the CRM Designation. This step requires Four Days of Instruction, 300 Pages of Text, and a Proctored 2 Hour Written Exam. As you may know the minimum entry point to do what I do is ONE License / ONE exam after only 40 Hours of study. So why after obtaining a Bachelors in Economics and satisfying the minimum Licensing Requirement would one choose to do this? Why after +40,000 hours in this profession already (when they always talk of surpassing 10,000 hours) would one do this? Especially when they already own and run an Agency? YOU. Canadian P&C brokerages that operate across provinces have a tremendous overhead when it comes to managing licenses and continuing education (CE) credits. What if another designation wasn't the answer to writing more new business...? I failed my first CIC exam... 🤦🏼♂️ The course was on Cape Code in August... ☀️ Ultimately I passed the next 5 exams and got my CIC. Officially a coverage geek 🤓 My assumption... Prospects would just be drooling on themselves to work with my know that I had all this knowledge. 🤔 hmmm... that just wasn't the case... damn... what the hell do I do know... Now did the CIC process help me become a better broker and risk manager... 100 percent 💯 ☝🏼But it didn't help the prospect solve their premium problem. The prospect didn't give a sh*t that I had CLCS and CIC after my name... 🤦🏼♂️ I could have added ABC...XYZ...123... and they wouldn't have asked or cared... They expected that I knew the coverage and that if they had a claim it was covered. ☝🏼 However...it still always came back to... how can you help me manage my premium??? As a broker there are two parts to you role... 1️⃣ Sales and new business 2️⃣ Risk manager and coverage expert How much more new business could you write if you focused on solving the prospects premium problem rather than adding another designation?
