Initially, this project began as a simple VFX effect in Unreal Engine. After completing the effect, I felt the environment lacked depth and decided to expand the project’s scope. 1) Created the VFX using Unreal Engine, sourcing character models and animations from Mixamo. Despite my lack of formal training, I overcame challenges in syncing various animations. 2) Blocked out the scene and progressively enhanced it by adding local height fog to the environment. To resolve lighting issues caused by the dense forest canopy, I integrated spotlights to simulate moon rays. 3) Finalized the project with tweaks to the scene, post-processing, and cinematic camera setup. Rendered the project in DaVinci Resolve with additional post-processing and sound design. The intro was inspired by Age of Empires I, while the overall design aimed for a Lord of the Rings fantasy aesthetic. #Epic #vfx #unrealengine #ue5 #niagara #visualeffects

#OneDayProject A small breakdown on my one-day Houdini project: Procedural snake VFX generator, a tool that I created during the early concepting stages of our latest game project at Games | Breda University of Applied Sciences. The tool is crafted using SideFX Software Houdini and was designed based on the illustrated concept for a game character - a mystical witch living in a desert and imbued with magical powers derived from sand particles. I built the tool in Houdini and then imported the results in to the Unreal Engine. My objective was to build a foundational tool that would help my team and me visualize and iterate on the VFXs. This being the early stage concepting, I plan to incorporate more complexities and details as we progress into later stages of game development. Tool current capabilities: Path Following: Snake will follow along any given curve (SOPs). Procedural Animation: I programmed the animation to be fully procedural. The snake starts its movement quickly and gradually slows down as it approaches the end of its path, where it seamlessly transitions into an idle animation (CHOPs). Geometry Creation: Every part of the snake is created procedurally within Houdini (SOPs). Particle Effects: Utilizing the snake body as a base, I generates curling sand particles around the mesh (DOPs). Excited to share a recent update from my #UE5 C++project! I implemented a directional hit reaction system that plays specific animation montages based on the direction of an incoming attack. Here's how I did it: -Used (BoxTraceSingle) on the player's weapon to get the (ImpactPoint). -Passed the (ImpactPoint) value through an (interface). -Calculated the angle using the (dot product) of the enemy's forward vector and a vector to the impact point. -Determined left or right impact using the (cross product). -Visualized with (DebugArrows) and (DebugSpheres). When I was in my recently ended 4th semester, we were given this task as part of an assignment. At that time, I struggled with it. Now, working on my own project, I finally understood the logic and how things work under the hood in Unreal Engine. Using Unreal's debug lines has been incredibly useful, making it easier to visualize and understand the process 🎮. #GameDevelopment #UnrealEngine #Animation #IndieDev #TechTalk
