I am honored to share the publication of my very first research paper. I would like to thank Professor Jean Cyr Yombi MD, Professor Prof Annie Robert and Doctorates Celestin Danwang MD, MPH, PhD for their invaluable help during my master's degree and the writing process of this paper. The paper is based on my master's thesis that aimed to evaluate a decade-long trend of imported malaria cases in a Belgian teaching hospital. For the ones interested, you can find the preview of the article here below.

Public Health Immunologist, Academician, Researcher, Programs Coordination, MEL and global health enthusiast
As we age, the capacity of our immune system to fight off pathogens that cause various diseases decreases and in the old age, both innate and adaptive arms of the immune system significantly contribute to a couple of diseases including metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and a bunch of non- communicable diseases such as cancer. With this, it is of critical importance to understand the mechanisms of aging and immunology and how this knowledge can be used to advance diagnostic approaches, treatment modalities and how to prevent immune- related disorders among old people to promote healthy aging and improve quality of life. As the immunology sector is not yet developed in many developing countries globally, with much emphasis on African continent, it is crucial to recognize the efforts made by International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) and FAIS - Federation of African Immunological Societies to promote immunology in all motives of medical sciences and public health. I am glad to have celebrated the World Immunology Day (April 29, every year) with you. Rwanda Immunology Society 🇷🇼 on the way--We move and strive to make positive impact in the society.

🟢 Lucía Carratalá Castro , Medical Research Fellow at CISM- Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça and Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) followed the steps of Farida, Jorcelina and Benilde, three health professionals working on the Stool4TB Tuberculosis study. 📝 "These three health professionals are working on the Stool4TB study, a project we have set up in the Manhiça district to validate a new molecular test that can diagnose tuberculosis with a single stool sample. If the study is successful, the diagnosis of tuberculosis will be simpler and more accessible. To be successful, the Stool4TB study requires a great deal of collaboration from its participants. For this reason, the work that Farida, Jorcelina and Benilde do every day, and that of the whole Stool4TB team at the clinic, is key to earning and maintaining the trust of every participant." 👇🏾 Read more 👇🏾

🆕 Screening high-risk groups for tuberculosis in low-incidence countries: a cost-effective strategy Researchers from the Experimental Tuberculosis Unit (UTE) at Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) and Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, led by Cristina Vilaplana, also members of Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red CIBER, along with experts from Agència de Salut Pública de Barcelona - ASPB, Fundació Lluita contra les Infeccions, and CRES-UPF, reviewed various studies to determine if screening programmes targeting high-risk groups are cost-effective. This work, published in the journal Eurosurveillance, offers new recommendations for optimising tuberculosis screening programmes in low-incidence countries. 🗣️ Nino Gogichadze, the study's lead author and a predoctoral researcher at IGTP, explains: "This study has given me a new perspective, highlighting the importance of considering profitability in screening initiatives". Both she and Master's student Arnau Sagrera, who shares the lead authorship with Gogichadze, emphasise that "standardised data is necessary for comparative analysis and must take into account various environments and cultural nuances. Assessing the economic aspect of tuberculosis detection is a necessary and enriching task". Read more: https://lnkd.in/dJxem37g #Tuberculosis #TuberculosisResearch #Research #Screening

🔬📝 Excited to Share Our Latest Research Publication! 🔬📝 I am thrilled to announce the publication of our research paper titled "Synthesis, Characterization and Larvicidal Studies of Ethyl 3-benzoyl-7-(piperidin-1-yl)indolizine-1-carboxylate Analogues against Anopheles arabiensis and Cheminformatics approaches" in the prestigious Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics with an impressive impact factor of 4.4! This collaborative effort represents a significant milestone in our quest to combat vector-borne diseases, particularly focusing on the crucial role of Anopheles arabiensis in malaria transmission. Our study delves into the synthesis and characterization of novel ethyl 3-benzoyl-7-(piperidin-1-yl)indolizine-1-carboxylate analogues, followed by comprehensive larvicidal studies aimed at understanding their efficacy against Anopheles arabiensis larvae. The integration of cheminformatics approaches further enriches our research by providing valuable insights into the molecular interactions and structure-activity relationships of the synthesized compounds, paving the way for rational drug design and optimization. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sandeep Chandrashekharappa and collaborators for their invaluable contributions to this research endeavor. Special thanks to the editorial board and reviewers of the Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics for their meticulous evaluation and constructive feedback. I am immensely proud of our team's dedication and hard work. I am confident that our findings will significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to develop effective vector control strategies and ultimately alleviate the burden of malaria. The paper is now available online https://lnkd.in/ehDZnd24 for those interested in delving deeper into our study. #ResearchPublication #VectorControl #MalariaPrevention #Cheminformatics #AnophelesArabiensis #JBSD #ImpactFactor4.4 #BiomolecularStructure #Dynamics

"On the 20th October last, while examining by microscope the blood of a patient suffering from malarial fever I observed in the midst of the red blood corpuscles the presence of elements which appeared to me to be of parasitic origin. Since then I have examined 44 cases, and in 26 have found the same elements. I have searched in vain for these elements in the blood of patients suffering from diseases other than malaria." During his time in Constantine, Laveran's breakthrough on malaria parasites, initially mistaken for white blood cells, faced doubt from other medical professionals suggesting a bacterium as the cause. Despite this, Golgi's validation solidified Laveran's findings, highlighting the importance of observation and investigation in medicine. Laveran's work not only clarified malaria parasites but also led to further research and progress in combating the disease. The initial skepticism around Laveran's discoveries emphasizes the challenges faced by researchers introducing new ideas that challenge existing beliefs, emphasizing the need for cooperation and validation in scientific breakthroughs. Laveran's persistence in Constantine showcases the dedication required to make significant contributions to the medical field, setting a standard for thorough research and collaboration within the scientific community. #dayangtechnologies #researchanddevelopment #research #science #researcher #tech #techcompany #technology
