Nations having their own health commodities, such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and diagnostic tools, is crucial for building self-reliance and resilience in healthcare. This autonomy safeguards access to critical resources and allows countries to tailor their healthcare systems to local needs and unique health challenges. The opportunity to leapfrog into more mature healthcare standards and practices is equally transformative. Developing nations can bypass intermediate stages of healthcare evolution by adopting advanced technologies enabling rapid modernisation without the burden of legacy infrastructure. Moreover, this leap can enhance healthcare equity and accessibility, improving outcomes in underserved areas and reducing health disparities. Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week 2025 will explore the transformation from healthcare to health and how nations can build robust, independent ecosystems to secure better health for their populations and become competitive players in the global healthcare landscape. This is a critical piece in understanding the family planning services landscape in Pakistan. There are over 3,000 public and supposedly 7-10,000 private (social franchising) outfits that serve nearly 1.5 million users each year. In this paper, we use data from the FCDO's DAFPAK program to measure the footfall in two major social franchising providers. The key finding is that the overall volumes of FP clients are low, but much higher than in government clinics. Both public and private providers need to attract more clients to their clinics and that funds are better spent looking at means to do that such as outreach. More clinics, more providers and probably additional training are not immediately needed Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary Rafiullah Kakar Jasim Anwar Syed Khurram Azmat PhD, MPH, MD, CAPM Syed Aziz Rab Jason Bremner Sumita Banerjee Aparna Jain Win Brown
We are proud to announce that our paper on determining the utilization of private facilities based on monthly volume of clients has been published! We utilized Delivering Accelerated Family Planning in Pakistan (DAFPAK) data to analyze client volume and its influencing factors, including COVID-19 disruptions, from two of Pakistan's largest private-sector providers, Marie Stopes Society Pakistan (MSS) and DKT International Pakistan, aiming to understand healthcare utilization in this sector. Our findings show relatively low utilization and therefore the need to improve foot traffic to make private sector facilities more efficient. Proud of the team efforts by Dr Adnan Khan, Dr. Ayesha Khan, Areesh Fatmee, MPH, Taimoor Ahmad, Ibtisam Sajjad, Zona Usmani, Nayab Farman, and Sara Shahzad.
