Only 1 in 4 land cover studies use satellite imagery and just 1 in 10 use high-resolution for finer details. It's a missed opportunity in conservation research. High-resolution satellite imagery offers unparalleled accuracy and detailed analysis for identifying land changes important for conservation. Yet, its high-cost limits widespread use. Imagine the impact of making this cutting-edge tool more accessible. Let's advocate for affordable, high-resolution satellite imagery to revolutionise conservation efforts. #conservationinnovation #satelliteimagery #sustainablefuture

Did you know that space applications can help safeguard seagrass ecosystems? 🌊🌱 Satellites equipped with remote sensing instruments provide valuable data on seagrass distribution, health, and changes over time. This helps monitor the extent of coverage and identify areas at risk. 🛰️ By tracking coastal dynamics and water quality, satellites contribute to understanding factors impacting seagrass habitats, like erosion and pollution, and also aid in developing models to simulate growth and predict future changes. 📈 In collaboration with the Iliad - Digital Twins of the Ocean consortium, Eurisy is actively engaged as a project partner in the development of a virtual representation of the #sea. 🔵 The aim of the project is to generate predictions regarding future developments within the marine environment, fostering at the same time a sustainable management and preservation of marine biodiversity and ecosystems. 🪸 #worldseagrassday

🌳 Trees and other vegetation loss can have a serious impact on the environment. SpaceKnow Guardian® empowers you to easily analyze deforestation at any place on the planet in just a few clicks. 🌲 Deforestation monitoring requires flexibility to accommodate differences in forests in different regions of the world. SpaceKnow provides such flexibility thanks to its multiple algorithms applicable to the imagery of different resolutions. In the example below, optical low-resolution imagery from Sentinel-2 is combined with SpaceKnow's change detection algorithm. By utilizing low-resolution imagery data, even very large areas can be monitored cost-efficiently. 📩 Contact us to book your demo session! #deforestation #environment #satellitedata

🗺 Prolonged public access to high-resolution rainforest satellite images 🗺 Our agreement with the satellite program providers is extended until January 23, 2025. This extension ensures that users will not lose access to satellite monitoring of tropical forests before a more long-term solution is in place. Since 2020, we have offered users worldwide free access to high-resolution and analysis-ready images of the world's tropical regions. The images are provided by Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) and partners Airbus and Planet. We announced earlier this year a public tender for a new contract on satellite data for four years with the possibility of two extensions of one year. The process of entering a new long-term agreement is proceeding as planned and will not be affected by this extension. ⭐ Since the program’s launch, tens of thousands of users around the world have utilized free, high-resolution images of the tropics. Feedback show that access to updated high-resolution satellite data is crucial for understanding and responding to tropical deforestation ⭐ #deforestation #forest #nature #environment

Passionate Soil Scientist from Kazakhstan | Leading International and National Agricultural and Environmental Projects as PI & Co-PI.
📢 **New Publication Alert**: Thank you, Venkatesh Kolluru, for sharing this groundbreaking research! The introduction of the Detection, Causation, and Attribution (DCA) framework is a significant advancement in vegetation trend detection and understanding the underlying drivers. I highly recommend reading and citing this paper, especially for those involved in climate resilience, land use, and environmental analysis. The insights gained from the application in Kazakhstan are particularly relevant for similar regions worldwide. Don't miss out on this valuable paper: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gtUHF3dQ #Research #Kazakhstan #Degradation #Vegetation #MachineLearning #StatisticalAnalysis #Socioeconomic
#NewPaperAlert 📄📃 📣 Are you working on vegetation trend detection and aiming to identify the potential spatiotemporal drivers influencing these trends? Check out my new paper out in Communications Earth & Environment journal that introduces a Detection, Causation and Attribution (DCA) framework. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gtUHF3dQ 1️⃣ The proposed multi-stage multi-model approach — combining TSS-RESTREND, Granger Causality and Random Forest models — enables the detection of vegetation trends, quantification of driver contributions and attribution to key climate and land use forcings at spatial/regional scales. 2️⃣ The proposed framework when tested in Kazakhstan (KZ) revealed that ~1.14 million sq.km are undergoing vegetation degradation, with Grazing and Snow cover variability playing a dominant role in about 44% of these degraded areas. 3️⃣ The proposed approach allows for it's application across various regions, ecosystems and spatial resolutions, leveraging open access datasets. 🇦🇺 Aussie researchers have delved into how climate influences the nest evolution of tanager birds from the Thraupidae family. 🐦 🌞Their study found that nests in areas with high solar radiation tend to be shorter and narrower, helping protect embryos and chicks by reducing exposure to direct sunlight. Additionally, thicker-walled nests are likely providing better insulation in cooler regions. 🌧️ 🔍These findings underscore the crucial role of climate in shaping avian nest architecture and highlight the adaptive strategies birds use to cope with diverse environmental conditions. This research not only enhances our understanding of avian evolution but also emphasises the importance of considering climatic factors in the conservation of bird species 🌿 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gk9eXmYF #climateimpact #birdnest #avianevolution #tanagerbird #nestarchitecture #wildliferesearch #avianconservation #climatechange #environmentalscience #habitatprotection #sustainableconservation #rha #rephealthoz
