What an incredible room of people at the DEFY conference last month in Montreal! 💪 When like-minded, motivated people get together - incredible things happen. And… a lot of hugging! 🤗
Thank you to the Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), CAMSC and Inclusive Workplace and Supply Council of Canada (IWSCC) for inviting our CEO Mandy Rennehan to kick off the festivities - it was a privilege to meet so many diverse entrepreneurs and be a part of this important initiative and event. 🙌🏻
One of my favourite events of the year at Rakuten.ca. In today's fast-paced, technology-driven world, it's easy to get caught up in metrics, deadlines, and deliverables. But let's not forget the most crucial element of any successful organization: the people.
Humanizing your team isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a must-have. Here's why:
Boosts Morale and Engagement: When team members feel seen and valued as individuals, their motivation and engagement levels soar. They’re more likely to go the extra mile and contribute their best work.
Fosters Innovation: A culture that celebrates diverse perspectives and encourages open communication leads to creative problem-solving and innovation. When people feel safe to express their ideas, magic happens.
Builds Trust and Loyalty: Trust is the foundation of any strong team. By showing genuine care and empathy, leaders can build lasting relationships that withstand challenges and change.
Enhances Collaboration: Humanized teams are more cohesive. When people understand and respect each other’s strengths and weaknesses, collaboration becomes seamless and more effective.
Improves Well-being: A supportive and understanding work environment contributes to the overall well-being of team members. This not only reduces stress but also promotes a healthier work-life balance.
Remember, at the heart of every successful project, every innovative idea, and every milestone achieved, are people. Let’s make sure we’re not just managing teams, but truly leading and humanizing them.

Yesterday, our team AND their families gathered at Earl Bales Park for what we like to call a Day-O-Fun!
This annual event is one of our favourites of the year as we not only get to bond as a team, but we get to know their families as well.
As we celebrate during pride month we must keep safe during all our events. Egale has published some toolkits that can be helpful to pride event organizers and attendees. Download the toolkit here: https://buff.ly/3VC9LY5

At NIOSC, we’re not just hosting events—we’re reshaping what it means to bring military spouses together. Last week, we stepped outside the box and organized something totally new: a Japanese food vending machine tour!
If you’ve ever been to Japan, you know the vending machines here are next level. Forget candy bars and soda—these machines offer everything from frozen gyozas to horse meat, and they’re an attraction all on their own. It was amazing to see how excited everyone was to explore something so unique and different!
This event wasn’t just about having fun (though we definitely did!)—it was about moving towards a more inclusive future for spouse groups. With so many traditional spouse clubs on the island, my goal is to create a club with events that everyone can enjoy, no matter their gender, their spouse’s rank, or branch of service.
My favorite part? Watching how well-received this new idea was by the group! I wasn’t sure how many would be excited about something so accessible, but everyone loved it. Shout out to our board members who planned the route and did the initial legwork to make this a reality. We’re stepping into new territory with fresh, innovative ideas that bring everyone together.
It’s exciting to think about what we can accomplish when we break away from tradition and start thinking inclusively.
How do you see spouse groups evolving to be more inclusive in the future? Let’s share ideas on how we can create more engaging experiences for everyone.

You just don't get to learn and hear from an entire news ecosystem for 3 days in one place that often; stunning location & conductorship from Claire Stuchbery and the LINA: Local & Independent News Association people : )
Some stuff that will stick with me for a while: hearing from Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) on media diversity measurement in 2024, i.e. the heart of the advocacy work by LINA and the Digital Publishers Alliance; defining + tracking impact and how do newsrooms challenge the statu quo; experimenting for new revenue streams when you're a one-wo/man news operation; learning about the practical use of Solutions Journalism at Missing Perspectives and Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC); discovering micro media reporting models like *PS Media and debating the ins and outs of ad-based, subscriptions, donations & memberships models...
That's a wrap on our 2024 LINA Summit, and happy World Press Freedom Day!
What better way to celebrate than to spend the week amongst gutsy, talented local independent news organisations.
Our Summit has now come to a close, after two inspiring days of panel discussions, keynote presentations and collaborative idea sharing. Thank you all for joining us at this event, and a special shout-out to the Newsport team for being our welcoming local co-hosts here in Port Douglas.
We had three AFS folks at the 2024 Pilgrimage this year. My third year participating and a fantastic surface finishing networking event! Shout out to the Organizers: John, Todd, Russ and more - great job - Thank You! Already looking forward to next year.
