To complete both the front and back machining operations on the same machine, the sub-spindle feature is commonly used. The sub-spindle, which is a secondary spindle, is mainly utilized to hold the front side of the workpiece while exposing the back side. This allows the tool to easily perform machining from the back side of the workpiece, achieving a one-time completion of the operation. When a machine is equipped with two systems, meaning that the CNC controller can simultaneously control two screens, it indicates that both the main spindle and the sub-spindle can simultaneously perform machining on the front and back sides of the workpiece. This method not only improves machining efficiency but also ensures the accuracy and consistency of the workpiece. For example, when manufacturing parts that require multiple machining steps on the same workpiece, using a sub-spindle can save a significant amount of time and labor costs. According to statistical data, using a sub-spindle can reduce machining time by half while also enhancing the quality and precision of the product. Therefore, for the manufacturing industry that needs to complete front and back machining on the same machine, the sub-spindle is a very important and efficient feature. Through the coordinated action of the main spindle and the sub-spindle, manufacturers can produce high-quality products more quickly, thereby improving overall production efficiency and competitiveness. Tool deflection is a significant challenge, increasing the number of necessary passes. To minimize deflection, our machinists focus on reducing the cutting tool's stick out from the holder as much as possible. When using tools with flutes the full length of the tool, they may rub against and cut the walls created by previous passes. To prevent this, we use tool shanks that have been relieved to avoid wall contact. Extended reach holders and end mills are essential for machining high walls at the required depths. Once your tooling is configured to reach the desired depth, we aim to limit witness marks with each pass to achieve the highest quality part.
