Sex workers, like all service industries, rely on online ads to expand and communicate with clients. However, third party criminalization and censorship impede access to essential advertising tools. Learn more in this new #AESHAproject poster: bit.ly/3RKvCdH Online communication is linked to reduced violence as it can help with client screening. AESHA project data shows that when #sexworkers + third parties use vague terminology to avoid criminalization, the ambiguity impacts their earnings & distorts client expectations. Due to the criminalization of im/migrant sex work, advertising can be even more difficult for racialized and im/migrant workers who fear their online activity will lead to workplace raids. To improve sex workers' access to essential advertising and screening tools, #AESHAproject evidence supports the recommendations in the image below ⬇️

For #InternationalSexWorkersDay, we are spreading awareness on the occupational health and safety of sex workers. A recent study by the #AESHAproject explored sex workers' psychosocial wellbeing and access to sexual health services through conducting interviews with sex workers and their third-party supports. Findings showed that sex workers faced limited access to sexual health education, testing and workplace training as well as challenges in implementing best practices for occupational health and safety. In research, a lot happens before and after we design and conduct a study – we need to apply for funding, get ethical approval before we start, and publish our results after we’ve finished! Tool #8 focuses on navigating such pre/post research activities. It explores ways to think about the practice of identity disclosure, when and how to engage sex and gender subject matter experts, and the politics and ethics of publishing raw datasets. May 17 marks the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. For #IDAHOBIT2024, we are spotlighting the MindMapBC project. MindMapBC is a service finder that helps people locate 2S/LGBTQ+ affirming mental health supports in British Columbia. For the past few years, MindMapBC has been led by the REAFFIRM Collaborative, a research team committed to promoting 2S/LGBTQ+ health equity. However, the team has always envisioned the website’s long-term future to be in the hands of a community-based organization. This summer marks the realization of this vision as the project shifts hands from REAFFIRM to QMUNITY, BC’s queer, trans and Two-Spirit resource centre. #CGSHE interviewed REAFFIRM and QMUNITY about the collaborative work put into the project and its transition.
