This article is a must-read; because, as it states clearly, a main source of opposition to DEI is fear. Fear, my friends is a liar. I worked on filling jobs at Publicis, when they won the Walmart business. Walmart has a very serious commitment to DEI, and clearly expected us recruiters to carry this through in our recruiting; not only did I believe this was the right thing to do, it's what I continued to do throughout my tenure as a recruiter. Not only because it's the right thing to do. I mean it is. But also, because it's the smart business thing to do. There are a lot of things "going wrong" with or in our country right now. I know we each have personal issues that are meaningful to us; it seems impossible to deal with them all. It's not. A lot of these challenges are HUMAN considerations. Politically, we live in a world of divisions. Our world is founded on hierachies, where some lives are deemed more valueable than others. Many are excluded and injustices follow. BUT if we could recognize that we are all in this together and we need a collective wisdom so we can all thrive... then perhaps we can move towards some healing, some equality. I urge you all to read the Bhagavad Gita, if you have not yet. This exact theme runs through it beautifully articulated. It truly is my guide in life at so many times, as it was for Nelson Mandela. It is timeless. Please, if you have the power to change this in your organization, speak up. Use your voice. Use your authority. Let's all be advocates for one another. For humankind. For we are all one. We will all be better for it. From the article: "What has been sustainable is when DEI is anchored in a business strategy central to the growth and performance of the company. I saw this firsthand when I oversaw Walgreens' commitment to employing people with disabilities, specifically in several of our largest distribution centers. These are time-sensitive, pressure-packed environments; either you do the job or you do not. Everyone at a distribution center has to be held to the same demanding standard. But with training accommodations and short-term coaching, people with disabilities performed the same job just as effectively, in some cases even more so, as their peers." #dei #diversityinclusion #diversityequityinclusionandbelonging #weareone #personaldevelopment #mindfulness #mindset #career #careerwellness Publicis Walmart Walgreens #recruiting #hiring https://lnkd.in/g79Bhb-w
