The last few days (consistent with the last few years) have been somewhat intense. I rarely have time to post as the schedule is always full and all-too-frequent plane rides are consumed with catching up on what I fell behind on while I was still on the ground. However, fuelled by airline cookies and with a few minutes spare I wanted to reflect upon our recent back-to-back North American media drives and dealer summit. Less than three years ago we had a grand plan and a lot of work to do. In North America we had nothing. No team, no offices, no certification, no Homologation, no presence, no legal entities, no dealers and certainly no customers…..yet. I descended upon Raleigh, NC - the future home of our Americas headquarters - having conducted a pretty exhaustive analysis of locations but never having actually set foot in the city. It has become a place that I, my family and my team love. And it’s an easy place to love. 34 months later we have not only launched the Grenadier in the USA and Canada but we have now introduced our second model, the Quartermaster, also. An exceptional network of committed and creative dealers has joined us and together we have delivered thousands of Grenadiers to passionate and patient customers that we earned in that time. Importantly, a exceptional group of people joined me to form the INEOS Americas team in Raleigh and, without whom, absolutely none of this would have been possible. There was much trepidation and doubt (from all sides) that we could actually pull this off. Many understandably reserved judgement to see whether a petrochemical company had any clue what it was doing in the automotive business. But, with an experienced team, patient partners and a meticulous plan, I believe that we have quashed most of those doubts and achieved something uncommon. I’ve lost count of the innumerable conversations with potential customers, partners and journalists who have expressed interest in what we’re doing. I’m grateful to each of them for their curiosity, skepticism and advice along the way. We’re making traction despite having so much more ahead of us to do. However, I wanted to pause to share some thoughts on how gratifying, exhausting, yet consistently educational the journey so far has been. There have been many interesting and insightful pieces of coverage recently, but I wanted to share just one here that I particularly enjoyed and that captured the character and charisma of the Grenadier and the Quartermaster succinctly.
