The first round of debate for #LB856 is TOMORROW, 2/21. Please tell your State Senator their vote is needed to advance LB856 to the next round of debate. To contact your Senator, click here: https://lnkd.in/eUatVN8 and access their landing page, then click on their email address. Introduced and prioritized by State Senator John Fredrickson, LB856 aims to help recruit and retain a stable child care workforce in #Nebraska by making #childcare providers eligible for childcare subsidy for their own children. Comparatively low pay and few benefits have resulted in a loss of childcare across Nebraska in recent years. Enabling more providers to qualify for the childcare subsidy for their own family needs would help stabilize and grow Nebraska's critically important early childhood workforce. #NEleg

The Child and Dependent Care Credit offers tax relief to working parents by offsetting the cost of childcare for children under 13 or dependents who are unable to care for themselves. Eligible taxpayers can claim up to 35% of their childcare expenses, subject to income limitations. This credit can significantly reduce your tax bill, making it easier for families to manage childcare expenses while pursuing employment or education. #TaxCredits #FamilyFinance #ChildCare #DependentCare #IRS #TaxPlanning #FamilyBudget #ParentingFinance #TaxRelief #Family #Kids #Child

Yesterday, the Indiana House Democratic Caucus announced our agenda, which includes supporting access to affordable, high-quality childcare. Childcare is critical infrastructure in any modern economy and Indiana's childcare system is in crisis. In fact, annually, Indiana loses $1.1 billion in economic activity and $118 million in lost tax revenue as a result of this crisis. A 2023 survey found that 59% of parents cut back on hours or left a job because they couldn’t find reliable, affordable child care. Solving this crisis is good for families and good for our economy. We propose three tested policy solutions: 1) Providing a childcare tax credit, 2) Expanding access to affordable "out of school" programs for school aged kiddos, and 3) FINALLY providing PreK for all! What solution are we hearing from the super-majority? Dumbing down childcare worker requirements. You can imagine my frustration.

As federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act concludes, many childcare centers are facing imminent threats of closure or substantial price hikes to stay afloat. With childcare in North Carolina already averaging over $10,000 annually, families are grappling with the scarcity of affordable and accessible options. In response to these concerns, North Carolina lawmakers have approved nearly $68 million in childcare subsidies to alleviate the financial burden on families and centers. This funding aims to prevent the anticipated closures and support the continued operation of childcare programs, which are vital for both parents and the economy. The recent allocation of state funds is a critical step toward sustaining affordable, quality childcare in North Carolina. Policy reforms and continued government support are essential to address the system's challenges and ensure its long-term viability. For more ways on how you can support our children, check out NC Child. A leader in children’s advocacy, NC Child was founded in 2014 and has spent the last decade dedicated to improving the lives of all North Carolina children. #ChildcareCrisis #NorthCarolina #EarlyEducation

Families with childcare expenses know how difficult it can be in a world of increased inflation, rising cost of living, and minimal wage increases. To help families cope with child and dependent care costs, a new bill, known as The Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit Enhancement Act of 2024, has secured a temporary expansion of the previous act to increase the financial assistance provided to families with childcare expenses. The act offers families some relief from the financial burden stemming from the cost of daycare centers, after-school programs, hiring a nanny, and even summer camps. https://hubs.la/Q02rQx1m0 #TaxPlanning #ChildCredit #MaitlandFinancialGroup #FairyROTHMother
