𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁: Every day I speak with people who want to sell their business. These are some of the common things that enter the discussion: 1. If you are the central player of the business and you do not have a functioning management team it is unlikely that people will want to pay you £millions to walk away. 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Develop a management team - this is a positive step whether you are selling or not as it gives the business a chance to grow beyond your superhuman capabilities. 2. Just because someone has lazily said that you can get X x turnover or X x profits doesn't mean it is true. Do they know and understand the market and what potential buyers want? 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Get a realistic valuation from someone with experience of selling businesses (and who already has buyers) in your sector. 3. Does the business have a professional finance function that not only has its fingers on all of the numbers, good record keeping, properly executed accounting records but also the knowledge and capability within the business to handle the forthcoming buyer DUE DILIGENCE?     𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Either hire an FD - or alternatively a fractional CFO who can bring all this together for you. 4. Are all of the shareholders onside and are in agreement to sell? 5. Do you have future forecasts that are realistic and achievable to demonstrate that there is a business moving forward and worth buying? A CEO/President/Founder of a rapidly growing business is oftentimes passionate "Driver". They demand excellence, are a do-er and the visionary. If I told you I would be your fractional CFO for free, would you be interested? Well, here's the thing... I basically am your fractional CFO for free. Because I pay for myself. Here's a real example of how that's possible. 1. Construction company hires me to be their fractional CFO 2. Company has $3M in cash sitting in an operating checking account 3. Company only needs $500K to cover monthly operating costs 4. I work with their bank to move $2.5M to a high interest savings account 5. Company is now making over $100K a year in interest income I'm cheaper than the money I just helped my client earn. I paid for myself. The cost of them hiring me is negative. I think a lot of companies don't hire a fractional CFO because they think they can't afford it. Is it possible you can't afford not to? 🤔

FRACTIONAL CFOs: JWM is looking to build-out relationships with experienced London-centric topco CFOs who enjoy presenting to investors and navigating multiple funding rounds (late seed to series B). Deep experience of corporate transactions is required. All sector-backgrounds are relevant. Having taken an equity stake in a number of early-stage private corporate clients since 2021, it's massively satisfying to be able to support (and share in) founders' journeys. This works for us, as we enhance our investments, and  it makes the job of building great teams easier. Working with our investee companies, in H2 2024 onwards it is likely that JWM will support the transition of multiple client finance functions from outsourced to in-house. As can be expected, this will involve fractional CFOs and at a later date full time CFOs. Naturally, the ability to deliver significant value while navigating multiple funding rounds involving institutional, strategic and retail money will be the key differentiator.
