Questioning the Disparity Between the Olympics and Paralympics? As a volunteer for both the Olympics and Paralympics, I've had the rare chance to see the inner workings of both events up close.  It’s troubling to witness the stark difference in budgets, services, and overall investment between the two, with the Paralympics receiving? less. Paralympic athletes have overcome tremendous challenges, surpassing physical and societal barriers to excel at the highest level of their sports. Despite these extraordinary accomplishments, the resources devoted to the Paralympics are not on the same scale as what is allocated to the Olympics. Why do those who have had to overcome so much receive so much less in return?  Shouldn't the Paralympics be supported and celebrated just as much, if not more, for the determination, resilience, and skill these athletes  display? Should we accept the Paralympics as a lesser counterpart to the Olympics simply because the investment is not on the same level? 🏅 Let’s talk about the difference in the number of medals awarded per day between the Olympic and Paralympic Games. By Day 5 of the Olympics, the top 3 countries—USA, China, and France—had accumulated 75 medals. But by Day 5 of the Paralympics, China alone had already surpassed 80 medals. This sharp difference is due to the numerous categories within the same event at the Paralympics, resulting in a higher distribution of medals. 🌍 The leading countries in the Olympics—China, USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, Australia, and the Netherlands—remain dominant in the Paralympics as well. However, two surprising entries shake up the top 10: Brazil and Ukraine, sitting in 4th and 5th place, have seemingly swapped places with Japan and South Korea, who are now out of the top 10. 🔍 In the coming days, I’ll explore whether these countries also had strong performances in previous Paralympics and whether there’s a discernible trend in the strengths and weaknesses of countries across both the Olympic and Paralympic rankings. 📣 The 2024 Paralympics Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 are underway in Paris, and we wanted to recognize the athletes competing in this year’s Games. There are some standout performances from the #USA at the #Paralympics like #DanielRomanchuk's clutch finish in the Men's 5000m T54 but why is the strongest #Olympic team left far in the wake of teams like #China & the #UK? Paralympics in the #US have historically received less #attention, #funding, and institutional #support. While there have been improvements in recent years, the US Paralympic movement still faces challenges regarding #visibility and #resource allocation. The relative lack of #investment & #promotion of Paralympic sports compared to their Olympic counterparts means fewer #athletes with disabilities have access to the same training, facilities, and competitive opportunities. This disparity contributes to not performing as strongly, as the #infrastructure and #cultural emphasis that benefits #Olympic athletes are not as robustly extended to Paralympic sports. I am not sure if this position is also a symptom of a greater societal issue in terms of supporting people with disabilities or even one of a sports ecosystem which prioritises profit. Another #Olympics may be done and dusted....Tom Cruise has abseiled into the Stade de France (Sorry Tom you're not a patch on Queen Elizabeth parachuting but nice try!). I am am blown away by that fact that 24 athletes competing in this year's Paralympics have used Back Up's services at some point in their journey to #Paris! The Paralympics are not just a sports event; they are a global movement that challenges perceptions, breaks down barriers, and fosters inclusivity. These athletes train with the same intensity and determination as their Olympic counterparts, often facing additional hurdles both on and off the field. Supporting the Paralympics also means advocating for greater visibility and accessibility in all aspects of life. It’s an opportunity for businesses, communities, and individuals to commit to creating environments where everyone can thrive. Hello, I share you an analysis about medals in Olympic games and Paralympic games: In green, there are countries who has better rank in Paralympic games. Points represent the Olympic games rank. Next to, there are numbers of gold medals. Some countries have better results during Paralympics games: Netherland, Italia, Brazil, Iran, Ukraine, Cuba, Algeria, Poland, Switzerland, Colombia and India. On the contrary, other countries have better results during Olympics games: Great Britain, South Korea, New Zealand, Sweden, Kenya, Norway, Ireland, Romania, Bulgaria, Austria. We have to take into account that there are more medals during Paralympics games. Same like that, these observations are interesting. In general, we can think that countries with more money and social laws to improve the life of people with handicapped will have good results in Paralympics games. That is false because lots of these countries had a better rank and more gold medals during Olympics games. Many countries of Latin America and Africa had more gold medals during Paralympics Games although there are countries with few money and resources for these paralympic athletes.
