AB 3162 passed the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks, and Wildlife with a vote of 13-1! Assemblymember Laurie Davies R-Laguna Niguel was the one "No" vote! Did you know that companies operating in Spain and Hawaii are trying to figure out how to farm octopus? AB 3162, authored by Assemblymember Assemblymember Steve Bennett (D-Santa Barbara) and cosponsored by Social Compassion in Legislation and Animal Legal Defense Fund, will preemptively ban this barbaric practice in California and prohibit the sale of imported farmed octopus. Due to their complex mental abilities, octopuses have significant enrichment needs that cannot be met in farming environments. Intensively confining these highly intelligent, solitary animals in unnatural farming conditions increases the likelihood of stress, aggressive activity, and mortality. Such cruelty should have no place in California. The bill will be heard by the Assembly Appropriations Committee. #animalrights #octopus #marinelife #AnimalSentience #InhumaneTreatment #seaworld #CALeg #myoctopusteacher

⏰Time to Register 📅 June 4 Webinar Our gardens and landscapes couldn’t flourish without wildlife, but a significant volume of complaint calls about various wildlife species arise out of the public’s interactions with animals like chipmunks, deer, rabbits, raccoons, and groundhogs – and their presence in these spaces. Join us for this webinar featuring Nancy Lawson, The Humane Gardner, to learn about how to garden and landscape among hungry mammals, as well as how to address misunderstandings about some of these common critters. This webinar will provide resources and strategies for coexisting with our Wild Neighbors in our greenspaces, in our backyards, and in our gardens. 👉Click Here to Register for this Live Webinar: https://lnkd.in/gbz4Y95w #animalwelfare #wildlife #communityoutreach #animalcontrol National Animal Care & Control Association The Humane Society of the United States

The Six Million Dollar Cat. I trap feral and wandering cats on our rural property in SW Victoria. This cat arrived on camera 2 March. He was trapped this morning. 20 trap days and three camera detections. The liver cooked in lamb roast juice finally overcame his caution. Feral cats and the impacts they have on biodiversity is well know by conservation science. Impacts are so well known by science that cats are the threatening process written into just about every State and Federal Action Statement of any legislated protected native animal in Australia. Cats don't read Action Statements. People who love cats usually don't either. So how does the body of science and legislation get in front of the people who have cats and like cats to make them take more actions to protect our native things cats decimate. In my experience its by showing the impacts, showing the cats having those impacts, and by teaching people who want to do something about that how to do something well- that we build up pockets of champion people addressing feral cats. Appropriately, in the law, and with the correct tools and animal welfare considerations. I use my X/Twitter account to do this because it matters to me and to science and to the conservation success of creatures I love. Why don't you join me in the cause and share what I post about feral cat trapping there and here, to build that skill set in your community. #feralcat #pest #pestmanagement #conservation

Today is National Animal Rights Day! Do we think education can lead to a real shift in the way our culture views and treats animals? Absolutely. Education is one of the key aspects in creating change as it invites us to explore the inconsistencies in our treatment of nonhuman animals, develop techniques for learning and teaching about complex animal issues in a constructive manner that invites dialogue and positive solutions, and identify solutionary innovations that protect animals, nature, and humans. There is hope of creating a better world! Many dogs are said to be beyond "rehoming". WE RE PROVING THEM WRONG! Rehoming is the word used for animals being released from study, after research. We don't like to think of the lab as a home, so re-homing is not necessarily the way we would describe release. Maybe rescue is not the way to describe release either. DOES IT MATTER? The Beagle Alliance simply wants to be in a place of unity - with the research facilities - with the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), with Health Canada - and with YOU! Experience, Empathy and Information = Wisdom. Wisdom allows us to make changes and to make this world a better place. A little bit of info here from the CCAC about legislation - this way we know what to work for and what needs to change: https://buff.ly/4e67ZFV #dogsknownoborders #labtolove #goodtroubleincanada #crueltyfree #crueltyfreecanada #onebeagleatatime #animaltestinghappensincanada #safety #freedom #love #adoptdontshop #rescue #beaglesofinstagram #beagles #endanimaltesting #thebeaglealliance #TBA #tba #advocacy #science #research #foster #adopt #dogs #gratitude #globalgiving

The extent of animal abuse. The extent of animal abuse is far greater than most of us know. Make that assumption as you research the truth - as you engage in animal rights activism - as you study, write and teach - as you live your life, as you enjoy your life, as you develop your aims and desires. For we destroy them. We exploit them. Torture them. Neglect them. Abuse them. We subject many of them to horrible lives and then violently kill them. It is a sickening pathology of the human. But we should turn away from the truth. We should lean into it. We should learn as much as we can. But in the end, I urge you to think about these things with epistemological skepticism. Most of us simply do not know the full extent of the grisly nightmare we perpetrate on animals, yet. Let us, then, help each other in our mutual understanding. Let us discover the full reality. I am committed to protecting and developing the rights of animals for the rest of my natural life. Together, we can.
