I volunteered in my granddaughter’s class.
I realized that sometimes, I need to slow down.
I was so excited to be a volunteer helper in my granddaughter's TK class. She didn’t know I was coming, and I got to surprise her plus help out. It was a great morning.
The teacher had me help some of the kids make paper tigers. I was there to help them place the various parts of the tiger.
What I realized was that I was doing things too fast. I had to slow down.
Way down.
The kids took their time with the paper. That took patience to watch them methodically apply glue and then place the pieces.
Then, the way they put the paper together was all over the place.
They were making tigers but making them on their own terms.
How true is that with life?
How rarely does anybody you work with do things the exact way you envisioned? How often do we go at top speed when really, we could stand to slow down and enjoy the process?
As I grew my team, I delegated various work products. Of course, we trained and provided feedback, but the ultimate end product wasn’t necessarily what I would have done. That wasn’t a bad thing, it was a great thing.
Taking the time to be patient and watch how others assemble their work can teach you a lot.
Giving someone the chance to explore, try, and even fail will make them better.
Have you ever watched someone else assemble their paper tiger? What did you learn?
Great work!👏
