Investing in our future generations is so important
As part of our WM Community initiative, we recently worked with CEO Leadership Alliance Orange County (CLAOC) to hold a five-week workplace internship helping students learn more about architecture and design. in which Comprised of 14 students, our leaders taught the students basic principles of design and mentored them through their team project to design a studio house. The students presented their projects at a “Design Pin Up” attended by our Chairman, Lawrence R. Armstrong, among other office leaders. If there ever comes a time when we can manipulate time (let's just ignore how that statement can mess with the mind for now), would I take up the opportunity to do so? The age gap in our team can be up to 2 decades (20 years!!). And obviously it will only increase with time. Typical generational cultural disconnects aside, our respective professional attitudes inevitably also differ. It can be a source of conflict, even though the field of work is clearly the same - in design or architecture. This is further complicated when you bring in another party - the client. How they engage with us, will inevitably also be a reflection of how their own generation deal with matters concerning professional work. It can be complex dynamic! I very often struggle with finding the balance. It seems simple enough: understand the client, understand my team tasked to that project, understand my own professional expectations as someone approaching my mid-40s, understand the whole consultant team. Then give up and dive in with eyes open. Maybe that's all that matters. Treat the passage of time as what it is - something that ceaselessly moves forward, taking us all along for a ride so long as we are mindful, and don't take the minutiae too seriously. Afterall, as my parents used to tell me laughingly, despite my distinct lack of amusement, 'Last time policemen used to wear shorts....'. #prosearchitects #staycoolandfunky #policemenusedtowearshorts https://lnkd.in/ghgnFqNQ
Not many events (other than TOP dates) remind us of the passing of time more than a valued colleague leaving to pursue further studies. Celeste Ng joined us with a Part 1 Bachelor of Architecture from National University of Singapore a year ago on 1 July 2023 with an intention of gaining some experience working in a small architecture practice before furthering her studies with a Part 2 Masters of Architecture. Fast forward a year, after witnessing first hand the ups and downs, highs and fumbles of Prose Architects, she leaves us to embark on another exciting chapter of her life. We wish her all the best and to enjoy her experiences always. Serendipitously, Prani Patton rejoins us after a short internship stint in 2023, now with a newly obtained Part 1 Bachelor of Architecture from Melbourne. In a similar fashion, she will be with us for at least a year, before she furthers her studies with a Part 2 Master of Architecture. Below wefie by Alvin Liau after a team lunch, with the best backdrop we can find in the vicinity. We are open to alternative backdrop suggestions for that lunch/dinner a year later... #claritythroughdesign #prosearchitects #funatwork #selfimprovement

I recently completed a project where I built a linear regression model to predict house prices based on square footage, the number of bedrooms, and bathrooms. This project involved data cleaning, feature engineering, and model training to create an accurate predictor of property values. #prodigyinfotech #Linearregression #Machinelearninginternship

I had a chance to visit the Emerson College Los Angeles last week, and besides my uncontainable enthusiasm with another masterpiece of Architect Thom Mayne, I took a couple branding lessons. Emerson College is one of the top film schools in the country, and the LA campus was built as a satellite to accomodate 200 Senior studens of the Boston campus who come for a semester-long internship program in LaLaLand, the most important hub of the entertainment industry. With that in mind: - Investing in a state-of-the-art campus was a priority in order to offer the best possible experiences to the students, Emerson’s primary customers, offering innovative academic solutions while expanding interactive, social aspects of education. They make it clear that community is an essential value of their brand. - By choosing world acclaimed Architect Thom Mayne and his office Morphosis to lead the campus’ design, Emerson immediately puts its building on the Los Angeles’ landmarks map and creates a statement on innovation that will propel its brand for years to come. An incontestably impactful exposure. - By celebrating a design language that translates its brand values and vision, Emerson also created a secondary and powerful source of revenue by locating the facilities for movie, TV and commercial productions interested in framing its sculptural shapes on the screen, reason of my visit. Have you ever thought about how the values of your brand can be experienced by your customers in unique ways? When working on your business plan for the year, are you able to anticipate how your customers should feel in each touchpoint of their journey with your brand? Leave in the comments! This is what a Brand Architect does! :-) Thank you Tatiana Barzaghi for sharing your time, knowledge and courtesy, making my entire experience even better. #customerexperience #marketing #customerretention #branding #partnership #businessplanning #brandbuilding #brandmatchmaker #bmmmarketing

Starting a new job in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry can be daunting. Especially for women and non-binary folks. But what if we empowered them to succeed on site? Nora Spencer, MSW, founder of Hope Renovations, empowers women and non-binary people through construction training and internship programs. Nora says, "When you hold power tools in your hands among a group of supportive women, your confidence soars! It instills a newfound self-belief, perhaps never tapped into before."
