Here’s something I’ve noticed in the vacation rental world… Most hosts don’t come from hotels, and because of that, they’re missing a big opportunity knowing hospitality standards. When I moved into vacation rentals after decades in hotels, I saw a lot of beautifully decorated properties, but so many were missing those small touches that make a guest feel special. In hotels, we had systems for everything like how to welcome guests, anticipate their needs, and make sure they felt seen. Vacation rentals can do this too! It doesn’t have to be complicated. Little things like- -A personalized welcome note -Making check-in super smooth and easy -Enough towels for everyone actually staying -Answeing guests questions quickly -Ensuring everything actually works in the home. (Like the tv remote) These tiny details make guests feel like they’re staying at a 5-star resort, not just renting a spare room. If you’re managing a vacation rental and feel like you’re missing something, my advice is simple: think like a hotel. Implementing just one or two small changes can transform your guest experience and your reviews. What’s one thing you could do today to make your guests feel more like VIPs?
