I recently facilitated a fascinating session for the Growth & Performance Marketing Forum with industry veterans Matt Cunliffe, Rosie Taroghion, and Jamie MacNaughton, who shared their battle-tested insights from scaling F2F at brands like tails.com, Gousto, and Republic of Cats. Sales and marketing alignment - doesn’t sound too difficult to achieve, right? In my experience it's something that many talk about but few achieve. At Rillion we see this collaboration as fundamental. We just wrapped up 3 days in Austin workshopping the US marketing plan for 2025. During these days I’ve gained so many insights that I’m bringing with me into the new year: ✅ Qualitative insights of our personas pain points from a sales perspective ✅ Deeper understanding of the US market and how we can make an impact here ✅ A clear plan of how we are going to work close together across sales and marketing My favorite part of the trip? Getting to know our amazing US colleagues better over Shake shack burgers 🍔

Round ✌🏼… And I’m way out of my depth starting with a selfie that has all the 🧀🧀 I just packed the little Mazda 3 with our 10FT Photo Booth, two pull up banners, and loads of marketing materials… Why? Well, the sales team at Phase Franchise Partners is hitting the road for the next couple of weeks back to back to back. But you know what I’ve learned about lugging this thing to conferences across the Southeast? 1) A booth is important (brand awareness and all), but not valuable if there is no one manning it. 2) The person manning it only brings value if they: know the product, believe the product, understand the client (for me the churches present), and wish to help the client achieve their goals. 3) The best booths are the ones that have the most engaged people. 4) The sales guy at the booth represents (or should) represent the whole company. Not a division. Not a commission goal. The whole company. Yeah I said what I said. Commission is nice, but it’s not what I wake up for everyday. For example: The last conference we sponsored Our CGO helped set up Our Marketing Director help set up Our VP of Preschool helped pack the booth Our Relationship Manager helped set up And I helped set up… Ok ok, I get it… most companies and most sales teams, they probably don’t get that level of support… and I get for some sales people commission is the driving force… But just for this post, this illustration, go with me for a second. It takes more than a sales team to sell a product. Sales people aren’t a true one man show. Commission is great, but a clear conscience is better. *Jumping off my soapbox… Here’s to all the sales people out there trying to finish the year strong ✅ ————————— Ps To the sales people going and setting up booths… how in the world are we supposed to set these things up in 30 minutes or less and not expected to be a sweaty mess lol. Highlights increased orders 650% in their books division.  Yep, that's the magazine for kids. Here's how... Strategic moves were devised by marketer, Jodie Cohen around trade shows to drive brand visibility which increased sales, opening 200 new accounts. The Tactics: 1. A list of tradeshows was made that they had not attended previously. 2. Convinced a variety of stores - toy, museums, gift shops, zoos, amusement parks to take in new titles or add a Highlights product display that Jodie created. 3. Emailed tradeshow attendees in advance, offering an activation and raffle driving booth traffic. She followed up post show with accounts that didn't commit to get additional sales. Two years ago, we came across a problem: if you asked five people at Sales Assembly what our mission was, you’d get five different answers. We were trying to be everything to everyone. The mixed messaging inhibited our growth in previous years, but we didn't realize it because demand was high, and the market steered in our favor. Then 2023 hit. The markets receded, we had to put more effort into sales, and in recalibrating, came to the conclusion we lacked a singular direction. And it directly impacted our results. Consistent branding across platforms can increase revenue by up to 23% because brands with a strong identity and clear messaging get three times as much visibility. AND sales teams that are aligned on their message are 67% better at closing deals. That’s a substantial difference. If you can’t sum up what you do in a concise, clean sentence, then neither can your customers.
