"The purpose of setting a large target is understandable – it encourages the industry to work hard to reach these targets – but we feel there’s often too much focus on public charging when looking at the UK’s EV infrastructure goals." Another great feature for Denis Watling in GB News, who comments on the fact that none of the political parties for the upcoming General Election have pledged a target for the number of public EV chargers they will install, and why looking to private infrastructure charging is the way forward. https://lnkd.in/eUq6sXuP

What we're reading: The federal government recently announced $623 million in funding for EV charging stations across the country. As more charging stations become available, current and future EV owners will hopefully have less range anxiety and be more likely to invest in cleaner transportation. This funding will not only apply to traditional EV charging stations but also to other electric vehicles like e-scooters. Thanks to Helena Metka for recommending today's article: https://lnkd.in/gp3XCAqc

California’s goal to build a million electric vehicle (EV) chargers by 2030 presents a daunting challenge due to the immense scale and pace of investment required. Without substantial improvements in funding, permitting processes, and grid upgrades, California risks falling short of its EV infrastructure targets. Ted Lamm, CLEE's associate director, states that "the magnitude of building what California needs in coming years likely dwarfs the public funding available," adding that state and federal programs will “only fund a fraction,” and the state needs to spend that money on lower-income communities. Despite Florida having the second-highest number of EVs in the nation, the Florida Department of Transportation is impeding progress by delaying the implementation of NEVI funds to expand EV charging infrastructure. This not only hurts the businesses and consumers that rely on charging, but it also impacts the economic development and jobs that come with manufacturing, installing, and maintaining charging stations across the state. Businesses are lining up to build infrastructure, but the Florida DOT needs to open up its NEVI application process. Florida: let's work together to create jobs and build charging infrastructure! https://lnkd.in/gSjji9ea InsideEVs

💡 California could become the first in the U.S. to develop reliability and reporting standards for EV charging networks. 🔌 Broken and malfunctioning public chargers have been a major problem across the state. One in five EV drivers say they’ve been unable to charge their cars at public charging stations. 🚗 It’s a great step, but the best path to reliable charging is still to build out charging infrastructure in multifamily buildings. Not only does this reduce driver dependence on public chargers, but it also provides more accountability for maintenance. I am seeing the same trend and it makes perfect sense. Drivers will expect a similar experience to the one they are accustomed to. It is up to the charging / fueling industry to provide what the market demands. It's how we get there that is tricky and will take patience + innovation + a compelling market offering. #ev #charginginfrastructure #mobility
The federal government is spending $7.5 billion to build a national electric vehicle charging network. My latest story looks at a surprising fact: Most of the charging stations will be located at gas stations. EV drivers: It'll be like you never left. Thanks to Loren McDonald and EVAdoption for providing the data. Thank you also to Sujay Sharma, Tim Langenkamp, Lori Pampell Clark, David Fialkov, Joseph Halso and Kimberly Okafor for their perspectives on this important trend.

ElectricDrives reports on big EV charging funding news out of the UK, today, as more government finance is made available for local authorities: part of the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund. This £185 million tranche of funding, from the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, should add a few thousand charging points to the UK’s network of around 56,983 public chargepoints, a figure which has increased by 47% since this time last year. Hopefully, the new cash will convince even more UK drivers to switch to EVs. We'll have a special side event, on the deployment of LEVI funding, at this year's UK EV SUMMIT, 15 / 16 July. This will provide a deep dive into the funding, with learnings from local authorities, and be a key source of insights for Charge Point Operators (CPOs). #evs #emobility #electricvehicles #sustainability

Colorado is investing $21 million to expand its electric vehicle charging infrastructure, aiming to alleviate "range anxiety" and boost EV adoption. The investment will fund the installation of 290 new charging ports across 46 sites, increasing the state's public fast chargers by nearly 30%. The move comes as EV sales have slowed due to factors like high prices and consumer apprehension about unfamiliar fueling systems. With over 100,000 EVs already registered in Colorado, officials believe the expanded charging network will meet growing demand. The funding, sourced from federal and state grants, prioritizes communities disproportionately affected by air pollution. Most of the new charging stations are expected to be operational by the end of 2025. "Significant work" to be done in order to achieve the EV charging targets set for 2030 ⚡. To hit this target the UK will have to install around 2,800 charging points every month... 5,000 have been installed in the past 4 months. Some work to be done! 🟥Labour is expected to unveil law changes in the near future, removing red tape and planning barriers that are currently causing month-long delays. Removal of these barriers is hoped to "facilitate the largest upgrade to our national transmission infrastructure in a generation". Full article below ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dFxvSC6Z
