Seems likes every company want/need you to have the SGTT classroom course for any technician work whatsoever, or they’re not interested. I understand and get that, but how is one supposed to actually get on the course 🤔. I’ve said to every company I’ve spoken to that I’ll pay for it myself if they could get me on it, they’re not interested, they just look for people with it already. Some companies do at least have the decency to inform you that they can’t offer you anything because of no SGTT, but most just ignore you. They must not consider the long list of transferable skills and other experience that you have built up over many years which may make you more suitable than someone with no real working experience but who has just been lucky enough for a company to put them through it, makes no sense to me. How can someone with over 20 years of experience (using myself as an example) working on the tools in many different industries be less suitable for a job than someone who’s just done some GWO’s and a 2 week course at Siemens, again, makes no sense. I have even emailed Siemens myself a few times over the years expressing my wish to do the course, to no avail. That all said, if anyone knows of any companies that would be willing to put me through the course or can help me in any way to get technician/inspection work then I’d very much appreciate it. TO ALL COMPANIES, there’s lots of good guys/gals out there with lots of experience and skills who just need an opportunity and would be a great asset to your company. Don’t discount them just because they haven’t done a 2 week course at Siemens, consider their WHOLE background and what they could potentially bring to your business, it’s not all about tightening bolts and changing oil etc. Please repost/share this to spread the word and hopefully help others in my position, of which I’m sure there’ll be many, thanks.

When I joined Team Power Solutions, I had no experience with hands-on tools, having grown up in a city and attended tech school right after high school. Despite this, the company was incredibly patient and supportive, helping me improve my skills over the years. As a work term student, my primary role was to assist senior technicians with maintenance and acceptance testing. During this time, the senior techs were exceptionally helpful, always explaining the procedures and the reasons behind them. They are not only the best technicians but also the best teachers. They ensure that you understand the concepts thoroughly, making the learning experience invaluable. In the field, everyone's opinion is valued, regardless of position or seniority, this made me feel like I was apart of the team and my input was respected. There are many reasons why I chose to stay at TPS, but the friendly work environment stands out the most. TPS fosters professionalism in every aspect, from interacting with colleagues to writing technical reports. This helped me to understand and learn how to do this myself, for which I am incredibly grateful. I have developed a great deal of maturity and professionalism during my time here. For anyone considering field services, I highly recommend TPS for their co-op terms. In the future, I aspire to become a senior technician with a wealth of knowledge to share with co-op students, just as the senior techs have done for me. #EmployeeTestimonial #WorkTerm #HealthyWorkenvironment #FosteringGrowth #AquiringSkills

Check out the latest updates from Marvin, Max and Noah - three more of our newest Epscan team members, as they share their first two months of training experience near Fort St. John: Marvin: "I’m grateful to Epscan for offering me a full-time Instrument Apprentice position while I was still a student—something most companies don’t do. The team treated me like a true employee and provided real work experience, even though I struggled at first with the physical demands of the job. My colleagues were incredibly supportive, helping me adjust and understand the LNG plant processes. Over two months, I’ve significantly improved my hands-on skills and understanding of instrumentation, and I hope to rejoin the team after completing my schooling." Max: "Despite being 100% fresh and facing some language barriers, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone at Epscan was. The journeymen were willing to teach me everything and repeat it as often as needed. Working 12 hours a day in the field was tough, but it provided me with hands-on experience that school couldn’t offer. I was able to fix transmitters and other instruments I had only seen in textbooks, and the money I earned was enough to pay my tuition and put away some for savings. Overall, these two months have been a treasure, reinforcing what I learned and giving me the confidence to continue in this field." Noah: "My Epscan experience has been great so far! I’m new to the industry, and Epscan has done a great job supporting their apprentices and helping them gain knowledge and experience. One of the biggest challenges was moving to a new area and being a new team member. The crew does a great job making you feel welcome and part of the community! It was also really cool to learn the ins and outs of the oil and gas industry and get a taste of what life is like up North." Thanks for the update guys! We're thrilled you're loving your experience with the Epscan family. #SkilledTradesBC #longterm #careers #employeesmatter #hiring #gratitude #BCIT
