⚽ 📊 How important is data though in keeping this balance in your squad? Data enables football clubs to add players in their team with specific characteristics. Metrics such as dribbling, accelerations, crossing along many other can be key points in choosing a winger for your team but are you aware of your full-back playing behind this winger? #footballdata #footballanalytics #squadbuilding #transfers #footballscouting

Hello everyone! I'm excited to introduce the radar chart, a powerful tool widely used in football analytics to assess a player's abilities and track various metrics over time. This tool is especially useful for comparing players in the same position. However, we faced a challenge: metrics often have different ranges and scales, making comparisons potentially misleading. To address this, we used percentiles, which show the percentage of scores in a distribution that a particular score surpasses. The data has been obtained from the understat API, which focuses more on the metrics when the player has the ball, such as Goals, Assists, xG, xA, and Key Passes. In the video, we will explore the evolution of the English player Jude Bellingham, from a promising young midfielder in 2021 to an all-around player in 2024. Also, we will compare Jude Bellingham with Belgian player Kevin De Bruyne, one of the best playmakers in the world, highlighting his dominance in passing metrics such as Assists, Key Passes, xA, and xGChain. Bellingham dominated in the scoring metrics such as Goals, shots, and xG. I look forward to your thoughts and discussions! #FootballAnalytics #RadarChart #PlayerAssessment #understat

Last week, Tom Tango introduced the concept of Predictive wOBA, and through correlation analysis, he demonstrated that Predictive wOBA exhibits stronger predictive capabilities for Next Season wOBA than both wOBA and xwOBA. Is there a way to further improve Predictive wOBA? In this post, I’ll examine the predictive power of a slightly different version of Predictive wOBA, incorporating walks, strikeouts, and hit-by-pitches, along with all batted balls. The average fan really doesn’t grasp how much work is done even with veterans in Spring Training these days. It’s not entirely about workload buildup, but exposure to advanced tech/analytics. For example: The #RedSox pitch usage is very different in MLB and MiLB in 2024 comparing to 2023. That simply wouldn’t be possible without a safe environment to fail, AKA Spring Training - along with the best analysts and tech to foster the changes. In the complex if you report on time and you’re healthy, you can throw maybe ~10 bullpens/sides on Trackman and 2-4 sessions on a markerless biomech setup, plus DEXA scans + force plate jumps + other S&C data collection. That’s all par for the course for a great org today. All of that information can be processed by your analytics team and new AI/ML models to give athletes great insights on recovery, performance, and on-field changes. Baseball at the highest level is brutally difficult. Having the best information helps a lot. #analytics #sabermetrics #motioncapture #hawkeye #trackman #pitching #baseball #mlb #milb #boston #bostonredsox
