Climate change significantly affects children’s health, and I can personally attest to its impact on the little ones in my life and those I have cared for! 🌪️Extreme Weather and Disasters: Children are vulnerable to the physical and psychological consequences of weather disasters caused by climate change. My neurodivergent kiddo was PETRIFIED of storms when he was little, causing him a great deal of stress when he was at school and away from Mom & Dad. ☀️Heat Stress: I mean, I live in Texas. Hard stop. Heat waves can be particularly dangerous for young bodies, affecting hydration, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being. Our young athletes are especially vulnerable during high temp times! 💨Air Quality: Climate change worsens air quality due to increased pollution and wildfires. Poor air quality impacts respiratory health, especially my little guy with asthma. It's always worse in the summer months! 🦠Infectious Diseases: Changes in climate patterns affect disease transmission. Some infections become more prevalent due to altered ecosystems, affecting children’s health. 🍕Food and Water Insecurity: Climate-related disruptions impact food production and water availability. Children in vulnerable regions face challenges related to nutrition and hydration. Pediatricians play a crucial role in advocating for climate action to protect children’s health and well-being. Looking forward to listening to how these top-rated pediatric institutions are tackling this important problem!🌍👶 #Pediatrics #ClimateChange #Analytics #Data
