Homelessness is often misunderstood. It can happen overnight and affects every aspect of young people's lives. Here are some of the impacts of homelessness on children today👇 Guilt and shame: Young people feel a lot of pressure to conform and fit in, and being constantly on the move makes that really hard. School struggles: When dealing with such uncertainty, it can be harder to focus on school. Finding a quiet place to do homework, or even keeping track of their uniform, is a real challenge. Risk of exploitation: Struggling to fit in and make friends can cause young people to become isolated. Criminal groups may exploit this by making young people feel heard and less alone. Imagine going months without hearing your own name spoken. Our approach dealing with homelessness goes beyond the simple act of providing food and nourishment. → It's about recognizing their humanity and → Offering them the dignity and respect they deserve. The isolation and invisibility that often come with homelessness can be profoundly dehumanising. When we step out to help, It's not just about fulfilling basic needs But it's about making a genuine connection. → The simple act of acknowledging someone's presence, → Listening to their story, or calling them by their name can make a huge difference. It tells them that they are seen, heard, and valued. → Every smile, → Every conversation, → Every act of kindness helps bridge the gap between us, → Reinforcing that we are all part of the same community. Homelessness is a community-wide problem, and the entire community needs to be part of the solution. End homelessness in America. We believe ending homelessness in America begins with a sandwich. Our goal, beyond simply providing a PB&J sandwich to those in need, is to acknowledge and recognize the often overlooked homeless individuals and families in our community. When you see those experiencing homeless, one of the questions you may ask yourself is, “What more can I do?” We pray that what begins with a PB&J sandwich grows into much more for those who serve. In small ways, each of us can address homelessness in America. And together, we can end it. Our approach covers three initiatives to fulfill our vision: Educate Advocate Allocate Education represents increasing public awareness. Advocate is increasing support to not only host a PB&J Day, but to seek policy change and expanded community support to develop solutions. Allocate is the giving of our time, talent, and treasure (physical or monetary resources) to support PB&J Days and beyond. To learn more about how you can start a PB&J Day in your area or support us directly in San Antonio, please go to our website, pbandjdays.com. #food #SpreadKindness #pbandjdays #MakeADifference #help #service #homeless #endhomelessness

Handling the Thin Space Between Homelessness and Middle-Class Security At Main Street Ministries, we have direct experience with the devastation that economic volatility causes to local families. Consider the Rodriguez family as an example. For years, the Rodriguez family had been contentedly living in their modest sized home. In an effort to support their kids and preserve some sort of middle-class stability, both parents put in a lot of work. But when Mr. Rodriguez had an unexpected heart attack, everything in their world fell apart. The Rodriguez family's formerly secure financial status collapsed as a result of Mr. Rodriguez's inability to work and growing medical expenses. They tried everything to keep themselves from being homeless, but they were afraid of losing their house and the security they had worked so hard to achieve. Join us for our New Beginnings Breakfast and be a part of the solution in combating poverty! Get your ticket here:: https://bit.ly/3HPs41Z Your presence and participation are crucial in shaping a brighter future for our community. Together, let's learn, collaborate, and take meaningful action to ensure that every family has the opportunity to thrive. #TransformationalChange #CommunityImpact #SocialChange #Empowerment #ChangeMakers #financialliteracymonth
