PSA for Event Planners and other Nonprofit Special Events Teams. There seems to be this new wave idea from a platform pushing an idea of not having a Registration Process at your Events. It's being spun as a great new feature - no lines, etc. It sounds great, it's sounds flashy....but don't buy into the thought without considering what you're giving up. Here's the problem, getting Guests to Pre-Register for your Event is the ideal situation, but we all know that you never see 100% participation from this. The best way to build your donor database and the best way to get MORE guests registered to "support you - spend money at your event," is to have the opportunity for your donors and their guests to walk into your event and to register for your Auction, or Raffles or to be able to Donate if they haven't done so pre-event. If you give guests the option to "self-register / self-checkin" completely as the only way to get setup, you will see a decrease in the participation of your bidders and spenders. What happens is, table sponsors get the table number and tell all their guests to just bypass and to walk in - you lose out on all those potential supporters. The domesticated common house chair, also known as a chair, can be one your greatest allies when it comes to the success of your fundraising event. HOW? We  know that when people are sitting, facing the direction of the fundraising experience, you increase the chances of those people giving during the fundraising portion of the event. People who are sitting are typically more focused, more attentive, more comfortable, and more connected to what you are saying from the stage. And the more people are connected the more likely it is for them to be moved to give. Seating can vary based on the event, the venue, and what type of experience you are trying to create but best practices show us that having chairs at your event is important, so get as many tushies into those chairs as you can during your fundraising event. I’ve helped create a lot of fundraising campaigns over the years and think this is one of the most power, simple and overrated concepts in the planning stage: ➡️ Make it relevant ⬅️ Whether it’s connecting your campaign to the season, a topical news story, or a sporting event everybody is talking about - try to find a theme that feels current and accessible. This is a powerful way of creating interest in your fundraising campaign; ensuring you are keeping things fresh and engaging 🤓 The great thing is that the foundations have been laid - you are building on a subject that your audience are already likely to be at least partially invested in 🕰 A topic that is timely will stick in people’s minds; creating a ‘bridge’ of connection between your charity’s supporters and their friends and family. This makes it easier for them to talk about a cause that is close to their hearts 💕 ✅ The result is an engaged audience who are far more likely to involve themselves in your campaign.
