It doesn’t matter which cause you support or what information you’re offering readers — If you’re in their inbox multiple times a day, you’re pushing people away and putting your earnings in jeopardy. At C2G Strategies, we tell our clients on Day 1 that if they want to keep donations coming in and keep their unsubscribe rate low, they shouldn’t email their list every day, and DEFINITELY not more than once unless it is genuinely urgent. We asked three fundraisers to raise average gift by 10% Inigo did what we all think of when asked to raise average gift. With much training, he knew ways to convince everyone to give 10% more with some friendly stewardship. Fezzik, with his ability to intimidate, simply convinces a single donor to give a massive gift. That single change lifts the overall average by 10%. Vizzini is cunning. He knows that he can do less work and raise average gift. He "forgets" to ask any donor who gave less than the average last year for another gift, and simply stewarded the ones who gave more. Since those "below-average" donors didn't give again, his average increased. As he would say, "You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! This week is the #BigGive where donations made to participating charities will be doubled! We have been working with the brilliant chaity PANS PANDAS UK to create a series of films for their campaign. Here is one of the films that we co-created with the families connected to the organisation. Here is what we did: 1. Held an online session with several families talking about the shared message that they wanted to be communicated in the campaign. We explained very clearly how and where the films would be shared, as well as the difference they would make. 2. Taught them the practical skills on how to capture content that would bring this messaging to life in an authentic way. 3. Made it easy to send over their footage, giving feedback where needed. 4. Edited together the films based on the groups messaging. 5. Sent the films for approval from the families. 6. Launched with their support. As nonprofit leaders, we cannot let our personal bias or negative relationship with our inbox keep us from emailing our donors. It is one of the easiest ways to stay in touch. I've seen the email format shared below raise 15K in a single send. Is that typical? Just last week, a client used this template for the first time and immediately saw a $250 gift come through. That's time well spent. The results speak to the profound power of communicating with our donors. I can not think of one sustained relationship in my life where healthy communication was absent. When we stop communicating with people, we grow apart. I can speak as a donor; I want to hear and read excellent communication about the organizations I love. It's actually frustrating when the only communication I get is an invite to the next gala. Shoot me an email, tell me a story, give me a call, cast a vision for my next gift! I give because I want to see the same results/impact in the world as the organizations I choose to invest in. When I give, I can do something with my life that I simply could not do without my nonprofit partners.

As your supporters, they need the right amount of care and consideration to make sure they stay connected to your cause. So what’s the best way to do that? ✅ Keep the comms regular: Stay in touch with updates and newsletters.
