We are still in an era where more startups will be shutting down. Read more ⬇️ And I know raising $305 million doesn’t really sound like a start up. But over the last eight years that level of funds was given under a different paradigm of growth. Specifically, accelerated growth and profits be damned in certain cases. So companies started in the post 2008 era that have not reached profitability still need to prove themselves. And that time to prove themselves is from now going into the next 12-18 months. But medical is such an in demand industry that this model seemed like it would work. Unless they expanded offices too quickly, one would think there’s unit economics in providing a better medical experience. But when Amazon bought One Medical for their data, it made me wonder if the data was where the real value was in this type of model and only really monetizeable within an ecosystem rather than stand alone. Resulting in the actual day-to-day business model of seeing patients as a GP not being sustainable. Should these companies have extended customer lifetime value by bringing on more specialists? Should they have done more on the functional wellness side where they looked at broader data or bio markers, etc. rather than just being a better UI/UX of your standard doctor visit? I know a lot of smart and experienced people across various industries, including this one, follow me or are connected to me. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
