If you are a leader and operate on the unexplicit platform - do as I say not as I do; it could backfire. Encouraging your staff to leave by 6, to clearly define what constitutes an after hours call, and advocating for time off policies that explicitly include mental health and caregiver days are all excellent. However, if you consistently send emails at 9pm, answer after hours calls no matter what, and share with team members that you are just really overwhelmed and could use a break while continuing to show up to work…consider the message you’re sending. Let’s work toward creating a culture where we prioritize, promote, and model caring for ourselves. The Health and Social Care Sector is on its knees - for many reasons, but here's the one I will address today and one I feel very passionate about. I have seen a huge increase in Registered Managers wanting to change roles or even leave the industry completely, slammed by the stress they bare, they can no longer move forwards. I have my own theories on why this is happening but what are yours? I see this not only from a recruitment perspective but as a Director of large care agency - something needs to change, we need to change. mental health care has moved on leaps and bounds from when I first entered the industry, however, those at the top often get overlooked and managers are expected to just... deal with it.. a sad but very real perspective of some companies I have known #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #caresector #ofsted #cqc
