Have you ever heard the name, Samuel Ekpe Akpabot? If you haven’t, what I am about to share with you will blow your socks off! 🤯 Samuel Ekpe Akpabot was a Nigerian music composer, ethnomusicologist, producer, and author. In 1955, farmers in West Africa had reservations about putting their money in banks. Barclays Bank, working with an agency called Larkin Studios, needed to develop an ad campaign to tackle this. The objective was to drive awareness of the benefits of banking, but they needed to capture the local and cultural essence of the West African market…enter Samuel Ekpe Akpabot. 🇳🇬 Samuel Ekpe Akpabot, a 25 year-old Nigerian composer, was brought in to compose and voice the jingle that brought the whole campaign to together! The song, “Put Una Money for There”, was the catalyst that not only drove the success of the campaign but was pivotal to the campaign going on to win the FIRST-EVER Grand Prix Award at Cannes Lions Festival in 1956! 📌 Learning about this story, was one of my proudest moments as an African and a Nigerian in the global marketing communications industry. A RANE update in the world of #geopolitics… 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 In a speech commemorating the 19th anniversary of the death of Yasser Arafat, #Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Nov. 10 that the PA would be willing to assume governing responsibilities for the #Gaza Strip but contingent on a political solution for the rest of the Palestinian Territories as well, including PA control of the #WestBank and East #Jerusalem. 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 #Israeli forces launched a large-scale military raid on the city of #Jenin on Nov. 9, AFP reported the same day. The raid targeted Palestinian militants, who engaged in a prolonged firefight with Israeli forces. The raid killed 14 people, including 12 militants per Israeli sources making it the deadliest West Bank raid since 2005. Israeli forces recovered weapons and explosives. 🇭🇺 🇺🇦 🇪🇺 #Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview on Nov. 10 that he is opposed to a new #EU package of financial aid for #Ukraine, Bloomberg reported the same day. 🧑💻💲The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China’s (ICBC) U.S. arm was hit by a #ransomware attack on Nov. 9 which disrupted trades in the U.S. Treasury market. As a result of the attack, clients were forced to reroute trades and ICBC was unable to settle Treasury trades on behalf of other market participants, with equity trades also affected. Market participants including hedge funds and asset managers were also forced to reroute trades and according to the Financial Times, the attack had some effect on Treasury market liquidity, though it did not impair the market’s overall functioning.
