Currently, a veteran must contact the VA within 72 hours of receiving non-VA emergency care; otherwise VA may deny payment for these services even if the veteran is eligible for treatment. Veterans suffering medical emergencies should not have to worry about whether VA will deny coverage or refuse payment because of administrative notification time requirements. H.R. 3644, the Addressing Care Timelines (ACT) for Veterans Act would provide an additional 24-hour period for veterans to inform the VA when receiving care at a non-VA facility under the Veterans Community Care Program. DAV supports H.R. 3644, in accordance with DAV Resolution No. 205, which calls for the improvement of emergency care benefits for service-connected veterans: specifically, for VA to provide a more liberal interpretation of the law governing payment for emergency care and reimbursement to veterans who have received emergency care at non-VA facilities. We ask all DAV members and supporters to contact their representatives and urge them to co-sponsor and support H. R. 3644, the ACT for Veterans Act. #DAVCAN #ACT4VETS

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that veterans are at 72% higher risk of suicide than those who have not served. To address this issue, HMP Global is partnering with Stop Soldier Suicide — a national nonprofit working to reduce the military suicide rate by 40% by 2030 — for the 2024 Day of Giving. Are you a military veteran living in or around Lewiston, Idaho? You are not alone, and there are so many resources available for help. Here is a list of some resources available to veterans in or around the Lewiston region. Please let me know if I can expand this list. There's a program called Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) that can help with rent assistance, utility assistance, rapid rehousing of homeless veterans, gas vouchers, and up to $1,200 in automotive repairs. They will also help with legal assistance, such as evictions or debt collection, child support, and a few other things. That's just some of the services they offer. SSVF grantees vary depending on location. The Blue Mountain Action Council out of Walla Walla is an amazing group that serves a few regionally nearby communities. Community Action Partnership of Lewiston is an SSFV grantee and case management location. https://lnkd.in/gyvmWAvG The Salvation Army in Lewiston also has a Veterans Services program, accessible via the link below, or by calling the local Salvation Army. https://lnkd.in/gFvqVZqr Again, you are not alone, and if you're in need of help, that's perfectly okay. I highly recommend starting with contacting your local VA representative or advocate.
