San Francisco Ballet Receives Historic $60 Million Gift for New Works and Artistic Innovation - San Francisco Ballet (SF Ballet) has received a landmark $60 million donation, the largest in its history and one of the largest ever given to an American ballet company. - The gift aims to support SF Ballet's vision of revolutionizing ballet by enabling the creation of new works, acquisition of masterpieces, and financial stability. - Artistic Director Tamara Rojo, in her inaugural season, has already introduced world premiere commissions and works rarely seen in the United States, with a focus on innovation and expanding the repertoire. - The donation, from an anonymous donor, includes $50 million for the endowment to support the annual creation and acquisition of new works, and $10 million to ensure financial stability for Rojo's initial seasons. - SF Ballet aims to use this gift to continue prioritizing new work development, nurturing choreographic talent, and expanding its repertoire to reach new audiences and artists. - The donation is seen as a testament to SF Ballet's commitment to artistic excellence and innovation, and it is hoped that it will inspire further investment in the company's future. How are my dreams of a dance career tied to sponsorship? Back in the day, the only thing I talked about, dreamed about and did on a daily basis was dance. I thought for sure I would be a big star one day. So when I was asked to represent my high school in a ballet trio, I was beyond excited. Cut to the realization that flying to Japan is EXPENSIVE! So what is a gal to do? Ask for sponsors!!! So does this make me an international performer? I need to update my resumé! #dance #japan #sponsorship #backstory

IEC (Electoral Commission of South Africa) , you had so few things to coordinate and so long to plan. Why are there no ballet boxes at Orange Grove Primary School voting station yet, you are 30 minutes late and apparently its not the only station without?. One of your few roles is to encourage voters.. #noexcuses #reputationmatters #credibilityisimportant #getyouracttogether

On September 30, The National Ballet of Canada recognizes and commemorates the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, honouring the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. We reflect on this painful history and recognize that learning the truth from First Nations, Métis and Inuit knowledge keeps an important step on the path of reconciliation. We encourage you to read the 94 actions outlined in the Truth and Reconciliations Commission > https://bit.ly/3N5Bhbv

7 years of collaboration between Philanthropy and Government to bring this remaking to life
Delighted we can now share this exciting news about the largest gift ever made to an Australian performing arts centre. The Ian Potter Foundation has made a profound impact to Melbourne, particularly in the arts, and this $15m gift is yet another example of their visionary philanthropy. We are looking forward to unveiling the Ian Potter State Theatre when it reopens in 2027, following its refurbishment. A huge thank you to the Ian Potter Foundation Governors and staff for this extraordinary gift.

The Ballet industry is evolving, with management and agents becoming increasingly prominent. This shift brings both exciting opportunities and new challenges. On the one hand, we see dancer visibility expanding into mainstream channels, leading to increased awareness and wider appeal. Dancers are commanding higher fees, which is long overdue recognition for their artistry. However, this growth in costs presents a challenge, especially within the traditional theatre setting. If ticket prices and funding from donations or sponsorships don't increase proportionally, a gap is created that threatens the sustainability of the current model. So, how do we bridge that gap? It's a question the Ballet community must address collectively. Should theatres innovate to draw more audiences? Can new revenue streams such as brand partnerships, collaborations, or even digital performances help alleviate the financial strain? As management continues to advocate for fair pay and more opportunities, we must also ensure that the infrastructure supports this new landscape to keep ballet thriving. #ballet #dance #balletmanagement #balletagent
