Let's try this again and see if you can hear my speaking throughout?!
One of my regular meditative prayers: "I have the Wisdom and Compassion for each person that is a stranger to my eyes/ears; I have the same Wisdom and Compassion for those I have been familiar with for years who may surprise me with the "strangeness" of an angle I have never seen/experienced before. Om Shanti (I am Peace)."
Ever notice that we are very welcoming to those we feel are like ourselves? We like those that are good looking (according to our definition of it), those that are intelligent (especially if we believe we are), we may welcome those that we look up to, or those that may somehow help us, but not likely those we have various biases about - this may be about the work the other does/does not do, their level of education, their age, their colour, their affluence, their popularity (or lack of it)... Interesting that each of these factors influence how "welcoming" we are with others. From what we do through our thoughts, our facial or bodily expressions, and certainly our communication through our words and actions.
Today in Bali I had an interesting experience that led to this contemplation. This video is to share that experience and the commonality all over the world.
Take a look to reflect on yourself to understand just how welcoming you are (or are not).
I think the things I have felt is the pattern in welcoming includes these 3 steps: Acknowledgement, Acceptance and Kindness.
Have people been welcoming to you? Have you been welcoming to others? Anyone you have not welcomed... and why? A bias? An expectation? A disappointment? A fear? A memory?
Do reflect and understand yourself to understand others too.
Hope you enjoy the contemplation I have tried sharing in this video!
"True Hospitality is welcoming the stranger on her own terms. This kind of hospitality can only be offered by those who've found the center of their lives in their own hearts."
~Henri Nouwen
"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby, some have entertained Angels unawares" ~Hebrews 13:2
"A smile is the universal welcome." ~Max Eastman
"Maybe the most difficult stranger to welcome is the one who lives inside us."

From Priya Parker, author of The Art of Gathering.
'It is a tender time for many of us. The question I’m hearing in the hearts and minds of my friends and community is: How do we move through and convene during this end-of-year season when things feel heavy?
... when planning (or attending) a gathering during tender times...
?) What might feel good this year?
During this time of year, you may be receiving many invitations. Rather than knee-jerk responding based on whether you’re available, I invite you to practice what I call “intentional guesting.”
Making a decision about how you want to spend your time is very much a mind-body evaluation, and it’s especially important when stress and emotions are high. When you receive an invitation, pause and notice in your body how it feels. Am I feeling dread looking at this invitation? Am I feeling joy? Am I tired but open to where this will go? Then ask yourself who you want to be around — whether it’s for comfort or delight or whatever you might need — and who you want to connect with at a later time.
Then, you can RSVP with a “chosen yes” or a “connected no.”
* I think of gatherings as temporary alternative worlds. And part of creating a temporary alternative world is creating a shared context for people. This context creation is particularly helpful when things feel tender, and people aren’t fully sure how to show up.
?) How can I honor the loss through meaningful connection?
There are so many ways to remember and to honor our people and our losses. Part of modern ritual is finding ways of being together that remind us of and let us experience the values and interests and delightful quirks of those we continue to carry. Many of these modern rituals are invented traditions that remind us of their full character, the space they took up, and how they moved through the world.
Gathering is not the sole cure for our pain, but being together in nourishing ways can give some relief and respite.'
Carnival is a massive celebration in the South of Netherlands where I live.
Beer. Face paint. Singing. Snogging. Dancing.
All part of a crazy ritual that has lasted for 100s of years.
And Rituals are important. Not just for bars - but for communities.
Rituals Help Us Connect
We all love to feel connected.
Shared experiences and traditions help us do this.
They can also help businesses grow stronger and sell more.
Rituals at Work
Rituals help us feel a part of something at work.
They give us a sense of purpose.
A weekly lunch or a yearly team trip can help coworkers connect in a personal way. This can make people happier, work better together, get more done, and make customers happier too. That's good for any business!
Rituals in Friendships
Rituals also help us connect with our friends.
We all have special ways we connect with our best friends.
It could be sharing meals or doing activities that are special to us.
These times help us feel closer and make memories.
Even though social media keeps us connected, nothing beats spending quality time together. Rituals help us feel close even when we're far apart.
Rituals help us connect at work and with our friends.
They do more than you might think.
When we do activities with others - like a company trip or a night out with friends - we feel a stronger sense of community.
We also feel closer to the people we care about.
So don't forget about the power of rituals.
They can make a big difference!

Happy International Women’s Day 💪🦸♀️….
As a female VP and mother of four, there are some truths that I have come to find that apply not only in work but in your personal life as well.
1. We are all human first
2. Show up, dress up and put your face on
3. If all else fails, make them laugh
4. Show your vulnerabilities, but highlight your strengths
5. Lead by example, teach by doing
6. Learn from everyone
7. Be kind
8. Speak up
9. Ask questions if you don’t understand
10. Show people how to treat you
11. Prioritize what you care about most. If you’re a parent, prioritize your babies.
12. Inevitably someone will love you, someone will hate you and someone won’t even know you’re in the room, choose your circle wisely.
13. Build a team and make sure your team members are smarter than you at something.
14. Did I mention to make them laugh?
This balance of working and momming is not for the faint of the heart, so kudos to all my fellow working moms who feel the daily tear of their heart strings as they try to execute both jobs with perfection. I promise you will feel like you’re failing more days than you feel like you’re on top of the world, but find a job you love, embrace the moments you love and surround yourself in both worlds with people and passions you love ❤️ ✌️

Are you truly present in the moments and experiences of your life, or do you find yourself constantly rushing through them? In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get distracted and miss out on things. But by consciously immersing ourselves and resisting the urge to move on, we can discover the beauty and joy in each moment.
I know, it’s hard to slow down sometimes. There’s so much to do and see! Those of us here in the US are getting ready for Memorial Day weekend where many of us will try to pack in all the things. How can we shift and savor our time with family and friends? What would it look like to just pause and take in everything around us?
So, how can you savor the moment amidst all the distractions? Fully engage your senses. What do you see, hear, smell, feel, and taste?
Here’s an example: Yesterday, I savored my time sitting on a bench in a park. I heard the babble of the fountain in front of me, felt the sun on my face, saw a small child be so delighted with throwing coins in the fountain and smelled the aroma of popcorn (there was a movie theater across the street). It was 10 minutes of my day that felt like hours. I left feeling recharged and happy.
What can you savor this week? Here are some ideas:
- A sunrise or sunset
- Time with loved ones
- Shared meals
- Time with your furry friend
- A shower or bath
Give it a try this week and share your experience! Let me know how it goes.
